Life's too short to vape with cheap crap ;-)

« on: August 13, 2010, 09:07:13 PM »

Hi Jason. I had Pm'd you about this a week or so ago.  I see the Tornado USB issues are being resolved, but, I and many others are still wondering about the SDMKII chargers.  I have been vaping since march and I have now had 4 chargers get overly hot on me. The 1st one I returned as well as 2 batterys for replacments. The 3  I have now have all gotten hot and caused the batterys to get extreemly hot as well. I love the SD and it has been my everyday go to PV. With the 510 atty it is just an excellent PV. However, these chargers just arent up to par. At first I thought it was just bad wiring in my home, but, I have seen quite a few posts about these chargers now. I would gladly pay more for a quality charger that wont get hot. I have never put the batterys in the wrong way. I have never left them on overnight. I have never gotten the batterys wet. I have never had the pastic on a battery tear. I have done everything right as far as charging them goes, and taking care of them, but I still have these issues. 2 nights ago, a charger and battery got hot 15 minutes after it was plugged in. On one occasion one of them got so hot I could smell it, and that was how I had come to realize they were getting so hot. I am hoping this is something that will be looked into as I feel these chargers are just not safe. I now have no way to charge my SD and have already had 4 of these chargers and dont want another until they are improved. I have faith in TW and I hope to see a new SD charger available soon.

At this point in time I think it would be nice to see a decent two channel universal charger. As many here have all sorts of mods and gadgets.

One that can charge the 10440's (Wicked Stick) 18350(SDMKII) and 18650 (Evil Weeval) and so on.

I had this problem with one of my chargers for about a week and put up a post about it, and since then like you, I have read others that complain about the same problem. For some reason though, after a week of the overheating problem, for some reason the problem went away and the chargers have been running cool as normal even when left overnight. It can be a worry though and I agree with you, I think improvement is needed.

Ya...they got hot.... and then they dont get hot for a while....then they get hot again...I am just fed up with it.

Even tried putting the charger in the wall first and then putting the batt in...and vice vera. makes no difference.

Can someone please post a US link for some protected 18350's that will fit the MKII along with a good charger.....as I dont know which brands will fit. Was looking at this charger..but not sure if this will work?
http://www.lighthound.com/Ultrafire-36-volt-or-3-volt-RCR123-Lithium-Battery-Charger_p_2270.html

I am really missing being able to use my MKII  right now and I am really ticked off about the sucky chargers  Angry   Had nothing but issues with them since March.  I really dont want to use any batts that have gotten that hot. It's just not safe IMO.
Thanks

LunaWolf, this is the charger I use for all my 'Standard type' batteries.... CR123's, 10440's etc up to 18650's, with two independent charging lanes, and works fine with MkII batts.

So all this time I had a charger I could use and didnt even know it  Undecided   I love the fact that I can do all my batts on it...sweet..thanks!  Wink

For anyone that has mods that take 3.7v batteries a TR001 charger is a very sensible buy, it takes batteries of all sorts of physical sizes and each channel operates independently of the other.
It's quite a small bit of kit too for such a versatile tool.

I just ordered this one from Ebay: Item # 390137625884, $15 + $2 shipping from Salt Lake City, Utah.
It appears to be a TR-001 from the battery list that it charges.

That's the one VaporPhoxxe, they are great chargers, just a shame they won't do CR2's, then I could do all my non-Tornado batts in mine.  Grin

I don't know if there would be a market for it, and I have heard any talk of one, but I would love a pcc for the SD batts Grin

Hey everyone.. new to the screwdriver clan.. but was having the same issues with the charger was getting hot as heck.. tweaked one battery pretty bad.. so conducted a test.. with the charger hooked up to my surge protector power strip it gets hot as heck.. how ever when moved to another room with it's own power outlet charged 2 batteries back to back charger never even got up to luke warm.

So my train of thought on it is that on the surge protector there is enough of voltage drop/amp drop to make the work load to much to jump the connection efficiently thus creating the heat.  Not sure if that is the actual right analysis or not but it is working here so I'm going with the SD charger in another room with it's own dedicated outlet.
