This how I mix flavors!!!

« on: February 20, 2012, 05:14:54 AM »

I am planning on painting the body of my Torpedo. I plan to just tape off the top cap and leave it in factory condition and protect the threads from paint.
I will of course tape off the lcd screen and the push buttons.
As for the rest, it's going to get a funky urban digital camo paint job with a clear topcoat to protect the paint. My question is regarding how this will effect the warranty of the product?
If it dies 2 weeks after I paint it, am I just stuck with a nice looking $100 paper weight?

I think the best bet is to contact TW and ask them, but I imagine once you mod something the warranty is void

X-Ring have you considered a vinyl wrap? Doubt it would have any impact on your warranty and the finish would be top notch!

Lordy I did look at some of those heat and shrink wraps but not my style. I haven't seen any that caught my eye.

Cyborg I don't really consider changing changing the color a mod, paint wont affect it or change the function in any way positive or negative. If it was to die under warranty they cant sell it again so I don't see the problem. If they did I think we all here have a problem!!  I know what you mean Cy, just putting my prospective on it out there, not meaning to shoot down your opinion. You are most likely right they wouldn't accept it when they received it on rma.

To me just cause it looks different because of paint is like saying if the factory finish is scratched your warranty is void cause it doesn't look the same as new.

Contacting cs at TW  has never done anything for me, they would probably send me an e-mail that said the torpedo is black!

Thanks for the replies guys

I meant they could possibly blame leakage of paint into the electronics for any malfunction no matter how well you mask it.
I agree that painting isn’t really what most would call a mod but anything non standard is technically a mod.
.
Stuff it man get the paint out & show us the pictures.  Wink

Well, I need to cut some new/ smaller male and female stencils for the camo pattern and wait for a little better weather.
I do think I'm just going to go for it!!! Wink

Hi all

Jut to confirm that modifications of any kind to our products, will deem your warranty void.

Thanks
