Faced with a long day and lots of driving last Wednesday I decided (through paranoia!) that as well as my one month old 1000mAh pass through battery, I would also take my newly delivered one, along with 5 filled brand new CE4 Tankomizers.

Half an hour into my journey I was surprised to find that there was no life at all in the battery (no light from the led at all); surprising as it had just been charged and was showing ‘white’, full charge a few seconds earlier.

Good job I brought the second battery, or so I thought. Unfortunately (for me) the second battery gave no power either; it then occurred to me that there must be an issue (short circuit) with this new Tankomizer; I wasn’t too concerned as I had read that eGo batteries have short circuit protection.

It was only 6am by this time so I tried to get my nicotine craving out of my head until I could make a phone call to find out the resetting procedure for the batteries.

It was 12.30 by the time I finished my first call in Manchester and I was headed to Birmingham; I now had murderous thoughts running through my head and was seriously considering A) Pulling over to find somebody to murder. B) Pulling over to buy some cigs. C) Calling T.W. to find out how to reset my protected batteries; I took option C).

During my phone call to T.W. I was horrified to hear that the short circuit protection doesn’t actually protect the batteries themselves; thankfully I had decided to miss lunch and hit the motorway before making the call, so there was nobody to murder and no cigs available to smoke.

I finally made it home around 6pm, but I did eat both of the front headrests and part of the dashboard from my A4.

I have since checked the resistance of the suspect tanko, and it measures between 2.4 and 0.2ohms depending on how much pressure is applied to the centre contact so something is moving and shorting; at 0.2ohms I probably would have had more luck trying to vaporise a nail.

I should add that the TW team are sending out a pre-paid envelope for me to return the evil tanko and its two vicitims, so nobody died and all should be good in the end.

Yah, Doc, totally underestand your temper. Yor experience just force more to folow the rulle of BackUps of BackUps. Knowing myselt it would be hard to force me to take option C. Nice of TW to check it and probably plan a replacement. Let us know the result.

Errr... ok, so what does it protect? Not the atty since if it's shorted its already buggered (guessing it only protects you, from blowing up  Cool).

Im glad I read this thread now although I am sorry to hear of your problems, I totally feel your pain when it comes to driving. Last time I did a long drive I had to buy smokes, there was no such thing as a 6ml tank then but on my next adventure I'll be rolling with about 24ml of liquid loaded and ready to vape so hoping I wont need the smokes, not sure though... on an 8 hour drive smoking helps pass the time and vaping doesnt seem to have the same effect, we'll see though.

The eGo-C batteries do indeed shut-down to prevent damage to themselves, however if you place them on charge, it resets the battery and should function properly after a full charge Wink

It would appear not in this case (for the pass-throughs at least), however follwing an inspection of the batteries two replacements are on the way.

Hi Doc, your batteries are working now, but TW have sent replacements, the Tankomizer was at fault, the insulating seal at the connector had split causing it to short the circuit.

Thanks Jeff

Yeah I checked it with a meter and it was changing between 0.2 and 2.4ohms, I guess the pressure from the meter probe was shifting in and out of contact with the casing.

I will always keep one of my box mods and some cartos in the glovebox from now on, just in case; they will vape a nail!

My first C batt wouldn't work right out of the package. As I was trying to see what was wrong I thought of something. What if the battery was "fully charged" and it shorted. The charger won't charge it knowing it's full already and so it wouldn't pull I out of safe mode. Just a thought.
