I've played on and off for longer than I care to remember, if we're talking about computers lol.  The first was a version of Dungeons & Dragons that my university ran on their mainframe. To get access you had to bribe a postgrad Computer Scientist with lots of beer.  Grin  After that, one lunchtime I discovered nobody had removed the games apps from our secretaries' Wang OIS... and they had a really great adventure game Cool.  Then there was The Hitchhiker's Guide on the Apple II we had for spreadsheets, Daleks, Dark Castle and Fools Errand on the Mac... all very addictive.  Roll Eyes

Years of not playing anything followed but when I fell down a hill and broke my ankle a few years ago so I started playing the BBC Spooks and Doctor Who games which were brilliant.  From there I discovered the very wonderful Three Rings' Puzzle Pirates which is an horrendously addictive MMORPG, subbed up and probably played way too much.... Grin Grin Grin Grin  I'm semi-retired but keep my subs up because its the sort of game I can see me playing when I'm old and grey - I'll be one of the old salts playing Spades or Hearts at the inn rather than pillaging by then.  Grin

Oh and then there is Kwontomloop but thats more of a daily challenge... Grin

Xbox 360 mainly but have a PS3 too.. Though it's mostly used for watching Blu-rays!.. No offense intended to the PS3 though as it does have some great ps3 only titles and I did have a PS2 which allowed me to experience both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, two of the most beautiful games..,from an Artisic slant. Now I've recently joined that Mac clan with a shiny new Macbook pro but that's really for music writing rather than gaming. Been at it since the Vic 20 days when you could by an expansion pack to take it's memory up to a frankly astonishing 20k!! lol..  Smiley

The games for the launch of the 3DS aren't all that exciting. Next month the good games will be out! You're right about the Pokemon thing, that is their main game, along with Yu-Gi-Oh. Those games are targeted for kids, but anyone who plays them will definitely like them, and get hooked. There are so many adults playing both of those games now, just as much, if not more, than there are kids playing 'em. But anyway, the 3D graphics are pretty cool, for most of the games anyway, and the games that are coming out will make it worth buying.

yeah, RzR, i am actually possibly in it for a remake of Final Fantasy 6, if they ever get their
heads around doing it, because they have stated that they are considering it for the 3DS....
which, in that eventuality, i will have to get one.

Nintendo lost me with the Wii...
i had every nintendo console before the Wii.....
forced myself to continue trying to give them a chance to return to their glory days
of actually getting companies to make cool games for them.
I gave up after the Game Cube.

I've been playing MMOs for about 10 years now..  couldn't go back to single-player games, and console stuff leaves me cold.

Everquest 1, 2, Ultima Online, City of heroes/Villains, AoC, Guildwars (very briefly), Some Eve, WoW of course and now Rift.

Nothing beats playing with other people, and I've made some really good real life friends over the years, all over the world.

The Wii isn't bad for what it is, a gimmick. Don't get me wrong we love our Wii but there was just no support for it from the game makers. In a rush to put it out they decided not to upgrade the graphics, making it difficult to include in the multi-platform game releases. A few did make it, albeit poorly done. The good news is that they are comming out with a new Wii type gamming system in 2012 complete with full-on nextgen graphics. The way the Wii performed was inovative and ground breaking. So much so, that they had all the others scrambling to duplicate it (move/connect).
I have been a nintendo person since the beginning, and the Wii was kind of a let down to those who thought it would be a next gen console. You have to admit though someone there knows what they are doing. The Wii out sold both 360 and ps3 for many years and has VASTLY widened their demographic. Look out when they do get their nextgen console out. If they can effectivly keep their current demograhics and add to it the hard core gammers AND bring back the old Nintendo fans...

Last time i checked the numbers, Wii was still ahead of Xbox, because, well, Xbox doesn't sell in Japan,
and well, the Wii sold obviously large amounts there.
Though of course...Sony was getting swept under the rug according to those number...and that was before
this last fiasco.
And of course before the CEO of Sony America claimed that the 3DS was a babysitting tool.

I must admit, i was kinda happy with the lack of "Nextgen" consoles, it was a pleasant break,
though if Nintendo was to make a more accessible machine, without those damned wii remotes,
with better graphics and games i wouldn't typically see released on a nintendo system, i might
consider going back to them....I do love my Xbox/Xbox live though.

My best bud has a Wii.....I have a Kinect, even he admits the technology is superior.

Also, i am getting tired of seeing Mario...there, i said it.

All of the people I know that have an XBox, have all had it die on them. Usually after about a year or so, when the warranty is up, they seem to crap out. Roll Eyes My cousin's going on his 3rd one now, with the first 2 dying right after his warranty expired. My girlfriend's brother's XBox lasted about 7 months before he had to send it in to be replaced. At least it happened early to him.

Nintendo aims for an audience of all ages, people at retirement homes, day care centers, to people at their own homes. Sony is definitely aimed at the hardcore gamers, and their sales reflect that.

Sony's NGP (PSP2), is gonna be coming out soon, at around $400 USD. That's kind of ridiculous, but if the game lineup is good, which it usually is, I'll end up getting it. Smiley

hmmm, 2 Xbox's(360's) in my house-
one newer one, got just because i wanted a new sleek black one for the main room,
the other is in my daughters room, have had that one going on past 3 years now, still kicking,
though i had issues with the disc laser a few months back, a quick take apart and clean and it
was as good as new.
Before getting the new one, that Xbox saw use of at least 12 hours a day(easily more) from just being
left on with netflix in the background.
I know a lot of people have had issues with the first gen of them but i still haven't had a prob.

I guess i am lucky like that.
Then again, back in the ps2 days i had that system poop out on me more than a few times
and had to replace...probably formed my disliking of sony products.

Get BBC, itv and channel4 on ps3 lol!!

On a side note

The kinect is great tech but the software is years off I think. Until you can control the game like the film gamer then I'm not interested lol. The move with sharpshooter is a fantastic way to play FPS at the moment. But I think in a year or so they will perfect the kinect for this.

Stormwatcher - You must be lucky! Cool Maybe the bad ones all went to the east coast, and I live in CT. Undecided My cousin is lazy so, maybe it was something fixable, that he wouldn't do. His way of getting a new one was, "MOM, MY X-BOX BROKE AGAIN!" Angry Next day or two, there's a shiny new X-Box sitting in his bedroom. Roll Eyes

HillBill - I think the BBC iPlayer is only available in the UK, because I don't remember seeing anything like that on there. Do you get Netflix in the UK?

I must be lucky too. I've had my xbox for 3 years now with only one problem and that was a laser problem as well. Also, like you, ours runs quite a bit. Counting netflix and huluplus ours is running a minimum of 8 hours a day.

Well, I guess it's about 1 out of 3 people that have this problem. They even have a website dedicated to that one problem. http://xboxredringofdeath.com They were supposedly offering a 3 year warranty for that specific problem, since it was so common. But when my cousin contacted them about it, they said he'd have to pay about $150 to get it fixed when a new one is like $200. He must be the one out of three, and you guys are the other two! Smiley

Lol yes, except sadly ITV and C4 hardly ever have anything I want to watch nowadays.  Lewis and the Tour de France or something is about it.  Sad

Sorry, yes its UK-only, and we don't have Netflix - we have something called Lovefilm (an Amazon company, I think) plus there are a few smaller cos about.

Nah lovefilm is like a blockbuster rental service. You can order films to rent online and theu come through the post or with PS3 you can stream them off the net. The postal part has loads of films, tv series and documentary's but the PS3 i find doesnt have a whole lot of up to date stuff. This is all unlimited too by the way for a monthly charge. Well if u take the top package.

So that would be the equivalent to our Netflix. Netflix has just about every movie that's out, available to rent on there. I heard they may put it on the 3DS! Shocked That would be kinda cool to watch movies in 3D from home. I'm definitely not buying one of those 3D tv's and wearing those glasses. Cheesy

well since the playstion online fiasco my son and I have gone back to playing our two player games played through the first army of two and now working on the second one. Even if the online is back up having a break from it and living a productive life again I 've been reluctant to devote and more time to COd black ops...lots of hours logged on that game!!!

Yes, video games tend to take out ALL productive time from our lives. If there weren't any video games, people would be a lot healthier, physically and mentally. I love my games, but I make sure to work out a few times a week! Wink I need to get back to doing it everyday though...
