Thought you all should know......

I don't know if it's common knowledge or not, but I'm disabled, mostly because of my left leg being crushed in a motorcycle accident in 1978 (when I was 21).  Well over the years the leg has worsened.  I fell in the garden on New Years Day because of my left leg and broke my ankle on my 'good' leg.  Anyway I went to see a Specialist at the Bristol Royal Infirmary and unfortunately there's not much life remaining in the disabled leg so it will have to be amputated.  Strangely enough I've known for a while (deep down inside) that this will have to be done but it was still a shock to hear it.  Not asking for sympathy as I don't need it and when it's all over with, perhaps my quality of life will be better.  Not asking for 'get well soon' either as it's not been done yet lol.  So 2012 has been a very strange sort of year for me so far!

K8 -- what a sense of humor you have with your subject line!     Smiley

I know you didn't post this for sympathy, but I DO truly feel for you and what you are going to have to go through in the coming months . . .  the surgery, therapy, learning to live without one of your limbs, the mental anguish, etc. etc. etc.   My thoughts are with you and hopefully you will continue to let us know how you are getting on.  You've been on this forum for much longer than me and I am sure you know and feel the love and support here!

Truly sorry to hear this K8, all best wishes for your upcoming surgery and I hope your experience in the BRI is as as positive (under the circumstances) as mine have been. I've been in their care twice when I smashed each of my knees up and my wife has also been in their care following falls and breaks as she has osteoporosis and we both thought the staff and medical care was exemplary.
Once again, best wishes for the future m'dear.

Sorry to hear about your leg k8. If it helps my aunty had her leg removed last year and now wishes she had it done sooner, she says it has sort of liberated her from the disability she had.

Yes that's what I'm hoping - I'm unable to do much with the leg as it is now, hopefully the door will open, enabling me to do much more.
