Travelling this weekend and wondered if anyone has done this, and if so, what was the reaction.

I did on the train to glasgow. Wasn't that busy at the time though. Never had any problems got a few looks but those that did then expected to smell smoke then they would no doubt have reacted but when a few mins passed and there was no smell, like a cig. they didnt even notice.

I wasnt blowing it in their face or general direction either I was just being courteous about the whole thing as they are entitled to a vape free train ride as well if they so wish so blew any vapour downwards which also kept it out the faces of people.

yeh, i probably wouldn't do it in a full carriage but if it was half empty i would chance it, if anyone asks don't cause a scene, just tell them its a nicotine inhaler, as ken says it don't smell of smoke. do let us all know how you get on though.

Stealth mode then  Smiley

My worry is, if we are too brazen and upset the general public, they will eventually ban e-cigs too!

Thanks for the reply  Smiley

well country wide no but i guess some train/plane and auto mobile operators might well do. They're vehicles their rules at the end of the day.

Thats why courtesy comes into it in a big way.

We are allowed legally to use these anywhere.

Non users are entitled to not be exposed to it.

Since we are doing it it should be us that reduces or removed the risk from others otherwise the non users kick off and we suffer through the removal of leniency we have been afforded and it becomes viewed as bad as smoking to the ill informed of whom many reside in places of high power unfortunately

you could always as with airlines contact the operator and ask where they stand on the subject, chances are they would'nt have a clue what your talking about.

I did several times! But I usually go straight to the man walking down the aisle to check tickets and ask. So far, south east trains, Virgin and Eurostar have accepted it with me. I never had any issues and they were actually pleased that I asked before.
I did it on both full and empty carriages, but always make sure it is accepted before doing it.
I had it once next to two drunk liverpool fans coming down from a match, and was scared they wouldn't accept it because they might think it is a real cigarette and it might get other people to think they can smoke, but the guy was very nice and told me it was accepted.

I vaped on a double decker bus. Upstairs. With a friend. At 10.30 at night. I was also drunk.

I'm not sure this counts as a valid and approved situation.   Embarrassed

Dont worry decibelle with a name like that im sure your not shy and tbh after a short time you begin to forget your doing anything to be subconscious about. Only time i really notice is when im going round asda as theres so many people and dont want to blow it in anyones direction but besides that most of the time its just become quite natural to me now.

We also vaped at our last gig, mostly outside with the smokers but I did have a few quicky vapes in the club, just didnt make a big deal out of it and blew it down, a couple of bouncers approached ste wondering what it was but they thought it was cool and let him carry on.... saying that though, I took my totally pimped 510...I've got black / pink batteries, pink drip tip and pink dct so it looks more like a vaping lollipop!! haha  Cheesy

I'm sorry but this is the problem.  Don't think for a second that you are entitled to vape anywhere you please.  People did that with smoking and look at how that turned out.  We are the minority and they are the majority.  The majority always wins.  One of those people you disgusted might have a blog.  They might post on it that someone was vaping on a train with no consideration for others.  Someone else chimes in saying that they have also experienced it.  Then later on someone finds a badly written artical about "dangers" passive vaping.  The press gets hold of the article and posts a news story on how vapers are "dodging" the smoking ban.  Politicians get involved and suddenly vaping is illegal.

I have vaped on trains/planes and buses and as long as you show some courtesy to others I have never had a problem. There are times when it makes sense to stealth vape just because Its not worth the hassle, just depends on the situation! Hopefully in years to come E-cigs will be well known and no one will have a problem!

I imagine those who try to vape the imitation ecigs will find it harder to vape in public. My screwdriver with a DCT on top confuses people generally and most think it looks like a mini bong!

Hi There,

I wrote a reply to another topic that I think might be useful to you... have quoted it below for you Smiley

Quote
Personally I vape everywhere (work, pubs, trains, buses, driving instructors car, restaurants and aircraft etc etc etc) myself, but then again I am allways willing to explain what it is and argue a little bit if necessary. You will always get funny looks on buses, planes and trains, on these occasions I stealth vape a little, but also tend to blow my vapour towards a window, or down towards the floor and it's usually disperses before it reaches head level. I have now flown to Madrid twice from Gatwick, with Easyjet and Ryanair, and had no comments from anyone on the plane. Gave a Spanish security guard a bit of a shock when I was waiting at the gate to come back last time though, he must have run the best part of 50 yards saying to me in Spanish 'What are you doing?!' 'You cannot smoke here!' etc as he got closer to me and I explained what it was, he asked where he could get one and tried mine when I offered!

I have noticed more and more lately people dont think I am smoking, but either ask me what it is (using a DCT 3.5ml with a mega passthrough in silver) or ask me if it's 'one of those electric things' usually followed by questions like 'Does it work?' and 'Where can I get one?'.. so it is becoming more common knowledge, which is great in a lot of ways, but it does make me wonder how long it will be before more companies start taking official stances of banning it in their offices, restaurants or pubs!

Ah well... at least were free to vape where we want most places at the moment.

Rich

Just to make it clear, I probably spend about 10-15 hours a week on trains and I tend to vape fairly consitently thoughout every journey.

Hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hi Kriss,

Did you find the courage to vape on the way home then? I couldn't as the train was packed with returning Everton fans.

I said it would only take one person... but I didn't consider it to trigger a terror alert.

I've vaped on trains, planes and a few bars in the UK and Germany. No problems. Some show a positive interest and others are intreagued, particularly when it's the Screwdriver or monster Torpedo/6ml cartomiser. Never had any signs of disapproval       yet
