Hi guys and girls,

As the headings suggests I am off to Australia and would love to take my kit with me but reading the web based stuff there seems to be some mixed messages especially around e-liquid as nicotene in Australia is classed as a poison and is banned even sellers over there seem to point buyers to importing liquid.

Now I fly regularly so know the rules around liquids, in fact would put my stuff in the case and just use my Skycig for the flight / journey and have this in my hand luggage but what I didn't want to then find though that I get stopped at customs in Australia and have my ego-c and e-liquid taken away and even worse be fined for trying to bring in an illegal substance.

Anyone been recently and help clear this up, thanks.

I'm also waiting for the out come of this thread.
Seems as you say some states it's banned as a poison.
Queensland is one i do believe??

Edit - Just found this by google.
Nicotine is illegal to resell in Australia and also the importation of nicotine for the purpose of resale is also banned.

You CAN however import as much as 3 months supply for PERSONAL USE.

I travel to Thailand a lot where they are also banned but easy to buy. Grin

Very mixed messages on the web so stumped really, fly on Monday so would be good to get some real life stories or a pointer to the defacto rules, anyone else?

Chunky1234,

I would have posted on this earlier because I fly with my vaping gear a lot and I always take along the liquids in a separate zip lock baggie.  The only reason I didn't post is that I have no experience with Australia.

Although it seems that personal use of liquid nicotine is allowed to be imported under certain quantities.  I am pretty sure that the 3month supply is a subjective number who do they know how much you vape.  You could infer from this that 2 or 3 20ml bottles in your checked baggage would not raise any eyebrows.  Just declare it as personal supply at customs.

+1 Casey

No experience of Australia myself, but I got through 5 lots of security to the Galapagos Islands (South America) and back with no problems, I just kept 3 x 20ml unmarked bottles in a clear zip-lock bag with my carry-ons.

I found this just now:

Dec 2011
"The scale of electronic cigarettes users in Australia is still dwarfed by that of the United States and the United Kingdom. This is due to Australian law prohibiting the sale of products with nicotine content, however it is still currently legal to import nicotine liquid from overseas in small quantities for personal use. Since e-cigarettes are not promoted here in Australia, most smokers in the past were not even made aware of what these products do or that they even exist."
http://www.australianscience.com.au/health/the-future-of-e-cigarettes-what-lies-ahead/

And this:

Feb 2012
"Australia is stuck with an interesting dilemma when it comes to electronic cigarettes. They are not outright banned – retailers can sell the hardware and liquid – just not if it contains nicotine. Nicotine is a scheduled poison in this country and can only be sold without a license inside smoking tobacco, for veterinary usage, or as an approved medicine. Fortunately for Australian smokers, it can be imported for personal usage."

My bet is with Caseys wisdom, just don't take too much liquid. If they can legally sell the devices there, you're not doing anything illegal by carrying that through nor by importing the small 'personal usage' amount .

That looks amazing. One day... *sigh*. Did you see much of the infamous wildlife? I know they don't let people close to the protected areas but there must have been some wierd and wonderful species around?

oh yes!, you can get really close up, there is no problem. Iguanas, sea-lions, giant tortoises, flamingoes, blue, red and black footed boobies  Shocked

You don't need visas to visit Ecuador, and you no longer have to write and get permission to visit the Galapagos, it's a one off $100 fee when you arrive at the Islands. The Islands are a little shabby I guess, but the people were really friendly Smiley

Ah, it's on my list of 100 things to do before I die. Alongside a few other places, which doesn't include Ibiza or Lanzarote hehe

What an amazing experience...
