Silly me Jeff, of course there is, wasn't thinking of the little mesh cap in the C-atty. Sorry to have missled you Lettie.

Tango, no need to apologize! And Astrecks -- yes, there are sites here in the US that have the 400 mesh; along with e-bay. Thanks all!

Ok, well this is adding up for me now then. I stripped the mesh from the C atties, joined it, followed Bazz's video and needed a new throat - twice.
I shall get the correct mesh and try again.
Thanks.

First atty got gooped up - tight draw and not much going on but the burned taste Stripped it down and sure enough the wick was stuck to the element Managed to seperate and dry burn even de gunked the original wick and is back to working OK (I fuzzed the lower part of the wick up and placed it so it covers the whole top of the element - kind of nestles around it...hope I'm going it right!)
Have a feeling this atty could do with a new wick and isn't going to last long I bought some fiberglass woven material as I couldn't find a local place selling the silica anyway, prior to diving in I thought I'd better test it with a naked flame...not good - it melted into a solid glob before it got glowing Thought I'd pull a few more strands to test just incase it was a mix of materials...the same result Bit surprised by the result TBH (good job it was only cheap and I didn't buy much)
I'm guessing silica is not the same as fiberglass and getting the wrong stuff is made of fail
Just ordered an A4 sized sheet of the fine stainless mesh
When you do the gauze replacement thing- does the gauze rest on the element or just hover above? any value in splaying the lower part of the gauze so it covers the element completely? (or do you guys leave it as an open tube at the bottom?)
Regards Rob

Rob, YES -- you need to get the silica and I'm not sure where you can get it in the UK (I'm from US). I've heard from other UKers that they have not been able to find it over there. What do you mean by "gauze replacement thing," are you referring to the silica? I'm not sure if it "rests" on it or "hovers just above" it because I can't see it once I've put the spike back on. However, IMO, I would say the silica is probably 2 to 3ml beyond the bottom of the round metal piece that houses the spike. And, splaying the silica certainly can't hurt! Hope this helps!

Hi Lettie, Am planning on doing away with the silica wick altogether Seen references to just rolling stainless gause round a pin (so it makes a hollow tube) and popping that in the spike It requires heating and quenching a few times and then dripping e juice on and setting light to it a few times so it oxidises (and becomes non conductive from an electrical point of view) Our local fireplace and oven type places only seem to carry the fiberglass rope I'm sure its obtainable online or mail order somewhere in the UK...its just that I havent found it yet :-) Regards Rob Post edited to comply with the forum rules: http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.com/forum/general-e-smoking-discussions/general-forum-guidelines/

I tried it with 901 mesh and it didn't work for me......but that could be more to do with my skill than the mesh!

You need stainless steel mesh, the mesh from stripped atomisers will not work it's the wrong type of material.

We know this if the modifications are helping why cant you listen and then u could maybe improve on these problems which im sure would make us all more the more happy because then we would not have to start these topics in the first place

I resent that comment Allen, the forum is here to help people with vaping problems, we don't make the products, the warning is to help people stop doing themselves damage.
For me personally if an atomiser only lasted a week, £4 pound is nothing compared to the money I would have spent on tobacco in the same period not to mention other benefits.

i did not depute the fact! all i am saying is the if people had to mod there stuff in the first place and they did come up with a good idea why should this not be taken into consideration thats all

I rarely mod any of my TW products, sometimes just a light re-alignment of the wick is all thats needed. You have to remember that most of these products are mass produced in China, very few other places make them, and if they did they would cost an awful lot more! Ive been vaping for a year now, and although some specific items have had problems, TW normally do get the problems rectified at the manufacturers end, and what more can we ask than that. Just because CS arent commenting on every thread that's on this board, doesn't mean that they don't view it and arent listening. From my personal experiences and from regularly using this board for the last 12 months, one thing I have noticed is that most problems do get sorted either by customer services or by the people here that share experiences and pass on thier knowledge, and that makes me happy! lol TW customer services are open to most idea's that people put forward. I have bought from several <cough cough> other vendors, and apart from one, the customer service and actual listening to what customers have to say leaves an awful lot to be desired! One particular product that I bought that cost me around £150 and had a fault from new, when I sent them an email to discuss the 'problem' I never even had my emails replied too! .... I know who I'm sticking with!! OK Rant over! Lets all be friends! hehehe

I'm a total newbie here so maybe I should , but I'm sure I've seen somewhere here the suggestion that a good way to clean-out/ maintain/ avoid problems (?) any e-cig is by using a compressed air canister, and maybe just an extra wipe around with tissue. I only say this because the parts are so small and sensitive that anything else will probably distort or corrode the innards. Please correct me if I'm talking b***ocks!

Jeff please don't resent anything. This forum is a great way for vapers to brainstorm issues. With regard to the comment about TW not manufacturing anything, yep I agree. But they do retail them and the amount of issues with the Ego-C is amazing and perhaps TW should apply some pressure the their supplier.

I as always see both sides of the coin and on this one I think allen has a fair point.
Not saying mods are required as i have been happily using my ego c with LR attys with really no issue other than leaking occasionally which i accept as kinda hard to stop due to me using a full PG mix so its thin.
However thats not to say you can ignore modifications. If you take the android model or the Microsoft Kinect as an example.
Why lock it down, why limit people to what is possible because guess what. When you do find that one person that finds a solution to a problem. Likely hood is you can then implement that fix down the line.
There was a famous example a few months back where scientists were trying to figure out the three-dimensional structures of different proteins to help in AIDS research.
It took them decades and still came up short.
They put it out there publicly as a "Game" of sorts and guess what. The problem was solved in 3 weeks.
So all feedback and info should be useful to any company.
Yes any mods will be on your own head but i think we know this.
Also I think its worth mentioning that TW do actually use info and feedback. This type of thing has lead the team to work on new cartos for the DCT with varying size of feeder hole and multiple entries for the liquid. Other work is being done with liquids as we all know from Dr Bilal's section and thats aided by all feedback from users.
One of the many reasons i do like TW

Ok enough with the mods etc, and on with the odds. I haven't seen this posted anywhere so I'll jump in here. My current Ego-C atty is a bit weird. Problem started when suddenly I was getting nothing from the atty, no heat no vapor just nothing. I took it out wiped all the parts off and tried it again and it worked...for a day or so. I eventually found that if it took the atty and turned it a little in the base it would work again. Then the next change came up, I couldn't get the atty to work on any battery, Tornado, Ego-C, SD MK-II, Torpedo. The only thing it would work on was any Tornado type battery with the Booster attached even at low voltage setting it would work. Take off the booster and put the atty right on the battery and get nothing. So I was using the atty on a Ego-C with the booster and battery is used up so my wife hands me a regular Tornado batt that is charged up and it works? Later I tried it on a regular Tornado passthrough and it worked, so I put it on an Ego-C 1000Mah passthrough and dead, nothing. Back on the old Tornado battery w/o the booster and it is working. So, without moving the atty tank inside the body and just putting it on different batteries, some it works on (not consistently) and some not. I may even lay it down on one that works and pick it later and it's dead. Anyone have this problem? I suspect it has something to do with the atty itself but this is just weird.

I had the same problem with my dct on my sd,i found i had to move the wee poles with a paper clip, some of the attys would push it down so when i put my dct on it wasn't actually combating with the battery pole.

I've had something a little similar. I have found that one of my c-atty (the whole cone) only works with a Tornado battery. If I put it on any other battery (650mAh and brand new 1000mAh), I get maybe one hit and then the battery reads dead (even tho it just got charged). I jump-start the battery on the charger for a minute or two . . . try again on that one c-atty cone and same thing happens; jump-start it again and try on another c atty and it works! At first I thought it was the batteries, but now I know it is something wrong with that one cone. Hope someone will come along with some advice other than buy a new cone and screw-in thingie!

Sometimes all I have to do is unscrew the top from the base and turn the atty then it might work. Sometimes it takes three or four tries to get it. Like it isn't connecting right. But if that were true why does it sometimes just stop and I have to do the same thing all over again???

How about the owner of this thread go through the entire thing and sum up what all the problems are to date and what the solution was, if any, for the problem? Publish it either on this thread or start a new one with the results. You could also print it out and send it to TW asking them to let us know what has been specifically done to correct any problems found by customers. It could be a nice hit list for them to sit down with and go over the next time they have their company meeting. Oh and just to vent a bit: I get tired of people saying "its mass produced in China to keep the cost down so there are going to be problems". I would rather pay more for a product that works ALL the time than spend money ALL the time on a product that only works on occasion. I would be dollars ahead if the product worked at least 99% of the time.

I can assure everyone that points raised in this thread and forum are discussed within the company at meetings and we do liaise with Joyetech and discuss any issues. While it it is true some would pay more for a higher quality product, many cannot and Joytech produce a good quality entry level device.
It is not entirely true that we cannot compete with Chinese manufacturing on price, at the moment Totally Wicked are at the final stage of producing their own UK manufactured e.cig. It will be a high quality product at a competitive price.

I get this all the time on my booster now! I believe it's due goths brass plate on the atty head is being bent in a little each time you tighten the device. I peel the brass plate up and it works on every battery for a couple days withou tightening it so much. I think soon I'll be trying to wedge something very thin under the brass plate to keep it raised about 1/16mm

My mesh arrived during the week, but not had chance to play This morning one atty decided to do the burny thing so I went ahead and made a stainless wick (10 min job) Just guessed at what size to cut...dunno if I just got lucky or if its a non critical thing rolled round a blunt syringe filling needle till it was close to the spike's opening int diameter - cut off the excess and cut to length once I charred it up as per the stuff I had read/seen online
Have put circa 4 ml through it so far (2ml ish was just plain AG - just to test how it would behave and taste when chain vaped hard and to see if I could detect any funky new flavours from the wick and to see if it needed bedding in or anything)
Only time I got anything other than masses of vape is when I ran the tank completely dry and it wasn't a strong acrid taste that lingered...filled tank up and it had gone with no priming/sucking/blowing or anything required Nothing seemingly catches it out now
Only done the one atty as the other 2 that are open and in use have been behaving themselves
Noticed switching flavours is also pretty much immediate using the stainless wick Flavours seem pretty much the same as with the std wick No leaking detected or any drawbacks found doing this..yet
Back to being nothing but impressed by the mighty C Mesh - its the future!
Regards Rob
