Washing Attys...An Update

OK, I purposely ran two attys through my last load of laundry, followed by a 60 minute stint in the clothes dryer. I put in two attys. One was completely dead, the other very weak. Both are working flawlessly and producing loads of vapor. One was strong enough to make me feel a tad dizzy, although that may be the result of the towel lint.

No, but seriously, they are both working, and quite well. One thing I noticed is that the threads in particular were as clean as brand new (I can never get all that dark crud off, even with alcohol), so maybe in addition to the cleaning, improved contact with the battery has something to do with it.

Very interesting smokeless, I wonder if the laundry detergent is helping or maybe is the agitation of the water

Do you use fabric softener?  I'm just wondering if the fabric softener would linger on the wick because it seems like it would and would taste a bit like it. I have an atty that steam cleaning couldn't revive and might just try it for the heck of it.  Couldn't hurt...was gonna toss it anyway.

my guess would be te detergent capt12b... smokeless, you'll want to keep an eye out for oxidation on the metal parts, most of "today's" laundry detergent use an oxidiser of somekind or another to get stains out of clothes.  good to hear that they are working flawlessly for you smokeless!

No, no fabric softener. And no weird taste at all. In fact, I wish NEW ones were as tasteless at the start! I should note that I put aside the one that was producing the heaviest amount of vapor. It was working a little TOO well. One drag seemed equal to three.

I did the washing machine clean of attys a few days ago and it worked a treat.

The atomizers I put in were the ones that fizz but you don't see the glow when you look into them - i.e. the
half dead ones.After the wash all of them had the glow back.

One booboo though - I put the attys into a tied sock just for practical reasons.This resulted in the paint work chipping off.I guess
they were grinding together.Some were almost bare metal - they look like crap but they are vaping very well so far.

Wonder if it would work in a dishwasher using Cascade dishwashing liquid? I have some old 901's that I may put on those little stems that you put the dishes between. Got a load ready to go now. Will get back and let know how it went, he he.

I had a little paint-chip damage even letting them kick around loose. Probably a good thing, though, as it helps keep them separate from my unwashed attys. I don't plan to run them through the washer and dryer more than once.

My dishwasher is on the fritz, or I'd give it a try. Although isn't dishwasher water heated? And then there's the heated drying process. I know I've melted plastic in a dishwasher a few times. But I suppose an atty could withstand the heat. Not sure about the paint, though.

OIC  I didnt realize you ran your clothes through on cold, I like to wash clothes warm or hot. I think the melting in a dish washer comes from the drying cycle. Many dish washers have a little basket that can close (maybe for baby bottle nipples)  I was thinking that might be a nice place to put the attys

Got some going now. Gottem in the basket with the utensils, he he.  will get back later, as the heavy cycle takes awhile.

Yeah, the last batch I washed was with hot water. But I used cold the first time I washed the atty that was in my pocket. I always assumed dish washers might heat the water if only because mine has a setting for pots and pans. But maybe that just extends the washing time. My unit broke when water stopped being sent to it and I tried to wash some dishes, not realizing no water has been available. I reached in and grabbed some metal utensils and burned my hand enough to leave marks.

Anyway, I definitely give it a try if I had a working dishwasher. But only with a couple of them at first.

Update: that one atty I washed that was producing tons of vapor gave up the ghost about an hour after I attempted to use it again. It was going through juice like crazy so I suspect it was overheating and finally burned out.

I think it's more of a "try at your own risk" type of method to use if you were going to toss them anyway.  It certainly doesn't hurt to try it on a poor-producing atty that is on its last leg.

Hx on washing machine cleaning cfield.  Smokeless accidentally washed an atty and thought he had killed it. Turns out, the atty was working perfectly so now people are playing around with the idea. We are joking a bit, but the subject is not a joke Like aMyP said, try at your own risk but as long as you try it with weak / spent attys - whats the harm

why try it on perfecly working attys? i will be trying it on spent attys  no harm will be done.

Well, in an attempt to further continue parallel thinking on the subject of atty washing, I tried washing my atty on my old washboard.....



Then hung it out to dry on my clothesline all day......

Unfortunately, this did not seem to work out too well for me.....next stop....the dry cleaners.

Ran one through a dark wash (cold/warm water) and it seems to be working Ok. Only took a few puffs since my new atty had just come in the mail.

Though, now it seems like both batteries are on their last legs. Sigh.

I think most dishwashers now have the optional drying cycle. I think I might try it if Smurf comes back with good reports. Not sure if I want to use any cascade or jet dry though. Maybe just the the hot water would be enough?  Course then the dishes wouldnt get clean.    Oh the dilema

Well I still have not ran a load of attys through the wash yet, but to my horror I did run a full 5 ml bottle of French Apple Tart Home brew through the washer and drier here at work. To my surprise it survived and seems to have suffered no ill effects. So now I have a clean bottle of juice

I still have yet to try any of the attys i ran through the dishwasher. When this one dies, before I grab a new one, i will try one of the ones I washed!  lol

Little chance my SD will ever see a washing machine as it is always around my neck, I have almost stepped into the shower with it still on though  LOL
