Similar things have happened with mobile phones but you have a point any excuse to ban something and the do-gooders are all over it

Ah dam.. Here we go again.. They really are trying their best to throw a spanner in the works aren't they? Sadly.. You're right Maria.. There are certain quarters that will be rubbing their hands together at this news! Even if it was probably some cheap knock off from a backstreet vendor! Still.. I guess we will wait for the facts as always. There were reports that a guy had an iPhone battery blow up on him.. Nobody seems to be talking about banning those though.. Surprise surprise! Thanks for posting.

This also could have been a mod gone wrong. all the new mods and use of batteries that may not be compatible with a e cig. hopefully we can get the real reason with the battery mishap .

Not a very well written article. It has happened before.... and the Tobacco Vapor Electronic Cigarette Association should know better ... ah well there a bunch of Lawyers ... lies just comes natural for em It happens with all batteries... laptops, cell phones, and ecigs alike. There was a shipment of ecigs some time back that went off inside an airplanes cargo hold and have seen a handful of instances on the forums as well. The instances happen at somewhat of a frequent interval of about every six months or so..... but all in all big picture it is somewhat of a rare occurrence. Forum populations only make up a very small segment of the vaping industry. It does happen... bans because of it though I would say are unlikely ... lawsuits are a real possibility however. We were talking about such instances a couple of weeks ago... quoting myself here That vid pretty much sums it up. Treat you batteries with care and they will take care of you. Treat them with disregard and poorly..... they will retaliate Avoid extreme temperatures That little warning mumbo jumbo that comes with electronic devices is there for a reason. Here's the thread http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.com/forum/tornado-75/tornado-batteries-18845/ there is a video on that thread you should watch if you haven't already to give you an idea of what happened in this situation. Treat your batteries with respect.... if you suspect something is wrong with them ... get rid of them ... keep all of your contacts clean(chargers/batteries/atomisers) and you will eliminate a lot of risks.... avoid stacking batteries in a mod and you will reduce your chances 20 fold.

Well, I came home all happy because I just received my shipment (Torpedo) and what I got was a sermon... blah, blah, blah. Although I am kind of new, I agree with what you guys are saying. It could've been a poorly maintained system, a neglected battery, a badly modified e-cig It's just a bummer!

A statement (and commitment) needs to be be made by TW. Of course I know, there is simply NOT enough info for official comment, but still.
This story is getting retweeted virally.

Of cause he will never admit to using Vodka, but after opening a duel coil cartomiser and undoing all the fluval, on activation the filament glowed very red. Kaboooooooom.

No it wasn't Vodka or a TW product.
It was a battery that vented.

Sorry Darth, I don't buy it. One, even the Lithuim Ions in the Laptop did not explode when in contact with a venting battery. Fire yes, Explode No, and the lap top should be a worst case senerio.

Gunpowder doesn't explode...fire yes, explode no,...unless it has some sort of container around it, even thin card is enough, then it's a firecracker

This was told to him so I just thought I would share. I can't even speculate on something I have only been using for a few months and I know that people use vodka in their mixes so I was just putting it out there and someone was worried about my husband using his e cig so they told him what they had heard about the situation.

It's why many mods have holes on the end caps ... it helps to keep the pressure from building up in the event a battery goes bad.
Even the Torpedo has a vent hole at the base.
There was one about 2 years ago that vented and knocked a couple of the guys teeth out. In his case it was from using two 3v batteries stacked to get 6v.....Batteries age differently...... once they discharge at uneven rates one will overpower the weaker one, then all hell breaks loose.
From what I have heard in this event it was a similar situation..... but at this point it is all rumors ... best I can tell. Could have just been an unprotected battery used in a mod which would have the same outcome if it shorted out.

The small amount of vodka used in diluting neat VG before mixing with the other ingredients in e-juice could not have caused a problem with the battery. As Darth said, we don't know what type of device, what type of battery or even if the battery had been damaged in some way prior to the incident.

Agreed. We're speculating without the facts. One comeent though. I know using the wrong charger with these kind of batteries is a BAD thing to do. I have done similar things in the past with like cell phones and overcharge or to much amperage feed can be a bad mistake. That why the plug ups vary so much is to discourage using the wrong charger.

It doesn't ...... It's not a mod though either.
It does however have a cap at the bottom that will pop off in the event it does happen..... the connector side may pop off as well.

That guy.. Well.. He's actually British Intellgence and currently working as 'Our Man' in the States. Rest assured that he will be having a strong word with 'Q Branch' when he gets back! These personal rocket launchers disguised as Vapourisers were a good idea but, let's be honest, that weapon needs perfecting? Poor bloke hasn't even got any clothes left to wear? All those high end designer suits..gone... Just like that! Least the Aston Martin is safe.

It's only a matter of time before the media ties this incident in with the Underpants Bomber. We already know he received his orders from the ...... well you guessed it.... The Underpants Gnomes They really need to work on Phase 2 A dodgy Phase 2 will not end with Phase 3 "Profit" The device he was using most likely came with a warning ... No it didn't warn of vaping in the closet using stacked 3v batteries but it did warn about using them in general which indeed does cover the closet These damn Gnomes are killing the industry I'm not very amused with there Occupy the Garden Protests either ... Spring is coming

People will always find a way around things, I have to think that vaping is here to stay, but maybe have to be a bit tighter on quality control. At the end of the day the majority of the stuff is made in china under absolutely no QA system whatsoever. TW may do there best but it's the others who are after a quick buck who will let us all down.

Still don't know the exact details and getting nothing but speculation and forum rumors.... mixed with the media adding something to it every time the story is told. If there is any legal grounds it will probably settle out of court... to which we will never know the details... neither will the media channels.
I still feel bad for the guy that got burned whether it was down to his own negligence or the manufacturer/vendor's doing.
One thing to keep in mind though is an event of that nature can happen with ANY Ecig... Mod or production ecig.... bootleg or original .. protected or unprotected batteries. Some have better preventative measures built into them then others if something does go wrong with the battery. There are some on the market that do not have any safeties built in.
Regardless of the above I will still continue to vape.

Well thats because there are way more mobile phones out there than e-cigs (in fact, according to cisco there will be more mobile devices than people on the planet by the end of 2012... the rise of the machines is coming people, don't say you weren't warned ) but I too will continue to vape although I will now try not to drop my kit quite so much Maybe I should be more careful with my battery powered toothbrush too

I can't be having any Gnome intolerance on this thread Darth?! I was given a Gnome for Xmas.. He's called Wilf officially but we prefer Gnome Chompski! and has taken pride of place in the first proper garden I've ever owned. Better still.. He smokes a pipe, which i'm fairly convinced is an E-pipe? Gnomes.. They will find you!

Ooh.. I see your predicament. Yeah, that's unfortunate See, what happened was, I inadvertently fed my Gnome some under-done Chicken the other night (it was quite pink in the middle) unfortunately.. He seems to have developed a bit of a taste for it? I guess what with your Flamingoes being the colour that they are.. Well.. Mistakes DO happen you know? I know I can't bring your flock back from their early demise.. But if it's any consolation, I have managed to retrieve your pants? The only thing is, due to the language barrier, pants mean something entirely different over here. Still, if you look in your closet, I'm pretty sure they're yours, along with this Tshirt? They're on their way as we speak!

Well one by one I have gotten the Flamingo's upright again and are slowly recovering.... they cant get up on there own and why it was such a cruel act..... poor dears were flopping around the yard ... ohhhhh the humanity
Didn't think I would ever see that T-Shirt again...... so all is forgiven .... just so long as you promise to keep Gnome Chompski off the raw chicken. I have seen Gnome Apocalypse by Steven King and understand that once gnomes get a taste for flesh it's hard to break them from it. So you have your work cut out for you.
Best wishes on a speedy rehabilitation

I actually saw this video in a post on a different forum. There are dangers in every day occurrences, and I feel this is a far less common occurrence than annual deaths from tobacco.

I'm just kind of thrown off by the fact that we have yet to hear who the manufacturer of the battery/e-cig was. If that had been a cell phone or laptop computer, there we would have been informed by now and recalls would be in order. All e-cigs that I know of come with a spare battery. They should know by now who the supplier was. Something seems fishy.
Meanwhile, even our local grocery stores are selling e-cigs. Expensive ones at that. And the media still thinks that all e-cigs look like "real" cigarettes. It's all kind of bizzare.

the details will never become common knowledge as its a scare mongering story, the first report had a picture of an old e-cig the kind you could get on auction sites secondly the word on the street is he was not doing the normal vaping thing with it he was modding be it juice or something else it could be worse though he could of been walking a dangerous dog, using a mobile phone and walking past a child wearing nylon pyjamas the cell phone would of sent a brain destroying microwave to his head forcing him to scream out loud sending the dog into a frenzy, the dog broke from his grip and headed for the poor child who in turn screamed at such a high pitch it set of a chain reaction with in the e-cig battery forcing it to explode hence shooting like a rocket towards the child, the rocket set fire to her pyjamas as they were nylon scaring the dog who thought she was some kind of monster, the dog turned and ran at his master in a state of panic and attacked him causing multiple injuries to his face and arm the child suffered burns to her torso but will be ok after 3 months in hospital, the dog was put down and the man died of brain cancer bought on by the mobile phone so lets ban pyjamas, cell phones, dogs and e-cigs as this may happen again but rest assured you can eat various foods that contain chemicals and no one will say a word oh and you can smoke as it makes the rich quite a fair bit of money

I'm just kind of thrown off by the fact that we have yet to hear who the manufacturer of the battery/e-cig was.
If there is any legal grounds it will probably settle out of court... to which we will never know the details... neither will the media channels.
I see plenty of reports with pictures of ones that look more like analog cigarettes one even had the retailers name plastered all over it with a disclaimer added under the picture that it was not the model and it was unknown what exact model and brand were the culprit. It's hard to demonize anything without pictures and the media is trying to finger paint a picture with a push broom With that said I'm sure it's a regular legal frenzy behind the scenes.

I have seen Gnome Apocalypse by Steven King and understand that once gnomes get a taste for flesh it's hard to break them from it. So you have your work cut out for you.
Best wishes on a speedy rehabilitation
Oh no.. He's really not looking so good now.. What the hell kinda Flamingoes are they? Have you been feeding them on genetically modified seed or something?! Ah.. Bugger.. He got out.. Gotta go..

Well there plastic Flamingos not sure what kind of plastic but it seems to have a reaction when in contact with lead painted ceramic gnomes fed on a diet of undercooked chicken which the moisture from is possibly shorting out his internal Li-ion battery Both most likely were made in China and the chicken was possibly suffering from Asian bird flu But hey we all saved buying these goods and cut all that frivolous expensive labor out of the equation. When gnome Chompski's batteries short, followed by an explosion and lead paint chips are scattered everywhere, and a Hazmat cleanup team descends on your yard lowering yours and your neighbors property values even further it will give you something to think about while your pulling fragments of tainted Chompski out of your hide. Shirt came in the mail today..... thanx

Be careful when you find gnome Chompsky, he may turn on you Thanks for the heads up Puffer.. But I think I'm ok at the minute. No sign of Chomp or any of his pals. I keep thinking I hear weird noises outside but every time I go to look out the window.. There's nothing there? Must just be my imagination! Still, I've put up a live CCTV feed just in case.. So let me know if you spot anything will you? Cheers. The brain you say 8? Useful as always.. Thanks!

Well we should all know that Big Tobacco wants to kill this electric cigarette craze as fast as possible and probably by any means necessary. So all this "fishy" news better have a really good back up story

Whatever you do, leave yourself an escape route mate. Get to us in the naughty corner if you can. Ellie's dragon breath is perfect for destroying their brains (and everything else too!). Just think of Ernie's crematorium (well, it worked for Bert didn't it?) We'll be here mate.... head for the smoke (and avoid the rain..... that shite burns now!).

On my way.. Besides.. Given my current Zombie Gnome predicament, the fact that you're under the weather and the fact that Caz has recruited a new.. Android.. No Cyborg.. It's the obvious plan.. One could say that it's a 'no brainer' V.E.. Reporting for naughty corner duty sir!

Aww VE..... glad to have you aboard mate. Ellie will show you your room, get you the keys to everything (including the executive washroom), and get you all settled in. You'll probably want a little nap after your ordeal getting here. Just rest easy mate, we'll keep the zombie gnomes at bay while you have a little lay-down, and then we'll sort out a duty roster when you're all rested up. We'll see how it all works out, but you'll be one of the top 5 around here. Here's Ellie to show you around. Rest easy, have a soak in the hot tub when you get up if you like, and let Ellie know if your hungry (we've got a little roast lordy chicken leftover, and we're expecting a shipment of cy shellfish shortly), so welcome aboard mate. Oh caz...... can you please send more enforcers soon? Seems we have a lot more mouths to feed down here now........ and, erm, Ellie's getting a bit restless.

OK mate. Ellie's the XO and "enforcer chef" around here, so just report to her. Not a lot going on ATM to be honest. She's just mopping up the last of the zombie gnomes that followed you here while waiting on our next meal...... erm, I mean cy to arrive. Shouldn't have been anything disturbing your sleep. All the rats are pretty much gone, and I know none of the zombies made it past Ellie. Grab some roast zombie for breakfast if you're hungry (sorry, but we should have a nice shellfish dinner as soon as cy turns up) and report to Ellie...... she'll let you know what to do with the rest of the day. We're considering a beach theme around the hot tub tonight, to go with our shellfish banquet, so you might want to practice your limbo...... I'd direct you to the cazbar, but....... well....... caz wasn't too amused the last time we made her bartender...... No worries though. I'm a hell of a bartender, and I'll do the honours if nobody else does. erm, just one question I have to ask before you go......... you didn't get bit by any of those gnomes on the way over here did you? I think we'll leave the staff meeting for a few days to be sure you....... um..... how can I put this delicately......... don't get any specific cravings. If all goes well, we'll divide up responsibilities between you, lordy, and ean then (assuming they haven't defected to caz again). In the mean time just pitch in and do whatever needs done.... oh, and enjoy yourself VE..... that's what it's all about down here in the naughty corner inn and suites.

Well.. Just a scratch? but although I've felt rough all day.. I think I'm on the mend now? Seriously though.. I've had enough of these Gnomes now.. Nothing but trouble.. Think it's time we took some action?! I know Miss Ellie wiped most of them out but there's still at least one rogue out there.. 'Gnome Boy' Think its time he Vaped his last Tank!

Good Morning, I've never had an e-cig or laptop battery explode on me before; however I have had a 25C LiPo battery explode in my model helicopter while hovering around 130 feet off the ground. It took no time at all to completely shred my Honeybee King II into a state in which it was more cost effective to buy a new heli versus rebuilding. The fire got hot enough to destroy the milled aluminum rotor parts and torch the carbon fiber blades. Trust me there is very little that scares me more than a flaming, whirling chemical fire falling down around me. I have new pants now... This fire was my fault as I had damaged the battery on a previous... ...err landing, and I didn't check it thoroughly enough before using it again. The principles are the same, especially for some high discharge batteries. A hard fall can compromise the cell in a manner that isn't always visible causing a catastrophic failure. If in doubt chuck them out because a $10.00 battery is always better than a medical bill or undertakers bill. Vape On, Canniscam

Whilst making your own sounds like a lot of fun, I think this is a cautionary story for anybody considering it; the moral being "don't" unless you know 100% what you are doing
