Similar things have happened with mobile phones but you have a point any excuse to ban something and the do-gooders are all over it

Ah dam.. Here we go again.. They really are trying their best to throw a spanner in the works aren't they? Sadly.. You're right Maria.. There are certain quarters that will be rubbing their hands together at this news! Even if it was probably some cheap knock off from a backstreet vendor!  Embarrassed
Still.. I guess we will wait for the facts as always. There were reports that a guy had an iPhone battery blow up on him.. Nobody seems to be talking about banning those though.. Surprise surprise!  Roll Eyes

Thanks for posting.  Smiley

This also could have been a mod gone wrong. all the new mods and use of batteries that may not be compatible with a e cig. hopefully we can get the real reason with the battery mishap .

Yeah, it just showed on the local news..  Just a blurb, but still...  And my mother-in-law read about it & posted it on facebook..  Now I'll never hear the end of it....

Not a very well written article.

It has happened before.... and the Tobacco Vapor Electronic Cigarette Association should know better ... ah well there a bunch of Lawyers ... lies just comes natural for em

It happens with all batteries... laptops, cell phones, and ecigs alike.

There was a shipment of ecigs some time back that went off inside an airplanes cargo hold and have seen a handful of instances on the forums as well. The instances happen at somewhat of a frequent interval of about every six months or so..... but all in all big picture it is somewhat of a rare occurrence. Forum populations only make up a very small segment of the vaping industry. It does happen... bans because of it though I would say are unlikely ... lawsuits are a real possibility however.

We were talking about such instances a couple of weeks ago... quoting myself here
That vid pretty much sums it up.

Treat you batteries with care and they will take care of you.

Treat them with disregard and poorly..... they will retaliate

Avoid extreme temperatures  Wink
That little warning mumbo jumbo that comes with electronic devices is there for a reason.

Here's the thread http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.com/forum/tornado-75/tornado-batteries-18845/
there is a video on that thread you should watch if you haven't already to give you an idea of what happened in this situation.

Treat your batteries with respect.... if you suspect something is wrong with them ... get rid of them ... keep all of your contacts clean(chargers/batteries/atomisers) and you will eliminate a lot of risks.... avoid stacking batteries in a mod and you will reduce your chances 20 fold.

Well, I came home all happy because I just received my shipment (Torpedo) and what I got was a sermon... blah, blah, blah.
Although I am kind of new, I agree with what you guys are saying. It could've been a poorly maintained system, a neglected battery, a badly modified e-cig  Sad
It's just a bummer!

A statement (and commitment) needs to be be made by TW. Of course I know, there is simply NOT enough info for official comment, but still.

This story is getting retweeted virally.

My husband just told me about this when he called me, rumor has it that the guy was using vodka with it. Not sure how true it is but that is what he was told.

Sounts right to me. These things are not explosive, so there is an external reason we don't know about

Of cause he will never admit to using Vodka, but after opening a duel coil cartomiser and undoing all the fluval, on activation the filament glowed very red. Kaboooooooom.

No it wasn't Vodka or a TW product.

It was a battery that vented.

Sorry Darth,
I don't buy it. One, even the Lithuim Ions in the Laptop did not explode when in contact with a venting battery. Fire yes, Explode No, and the lap top should be a worst case senerio.

Gunpowder doesn't explode...fire yes, explode no,...unless it has some sort of container around it, even thin card is enough, then it's a firecracker  Wink

My husband was told he was mixing vodka in his liquids. This was told to him so I just thought I would share. I can't even speculate on something I have only been using for a few months and I know that people use vodka in their mixes so I was just putting it out there and someone was worried about my husband using his e cig so they told him what they had heard about the situation.

of course not but vodka is flamable so you never know, there are so many things that can go wrong. As for me I will just stay with premixed from TW for now.

It's why many mods have holes on the end caps ... it helps to keep the pressure from building up in the event a battery goes bad.

Even the Torpedo has a vent hole at the base.

There was one about 2 years ago that vented and knocked a couple of the guys teeth out. In his case it was from using two 3v batteries stacked to get 6v.....Batteries age differently...... once they discharge at uneven rates one will overpower the weaker one, then all hell breaks loose.

From what I have heard in this event it was a similar situation..... but at this point it is all rumors ... best I can tell. Could have just been an unprotected battery used in a mod which would have the same outcome if it shorted out.

The small amount of vodka used in diluting neat VG before mixing with the other ingredients in e-juice could not have caused a problem with the battery.
As Darth said, we don't know what type of device, what type of battery or even if the battery had been damaged in some way prior to the incident.

Agreed. We're speculating without the facts. One comeent though. I know using the wrong charger with these kind of batteries is a BAD thing to do. I have done similar things in the past with like cell phones and overcharge or to much amperage feed can be a bad mistake. That why the plug ups vary so much is to discourage using the wrong charger.

I don't see any vent hole on mine, Tornado-T battery...
