Hi all  Cheesy
I was all ways useless at maths and age hasn't made it any better.
So I got 200 ml of vegetable Glycerin in the chemist, what a performance that was,
they didn't know what I was talking about, until I said you can use it for coughs
sore throats, and that was in boots!! Anyway I got it in the end.
Then I went to Halfords for the deionised  water that was a laugh, the chap said
do you want 1lt or 5lt, I said 1lt will do cuz  I want to mix it with glycerine and vape it,  Cheesy
the look on his face was a picture, just as I had expected. The look that said we got a right
one here, so I whipped out my Tornado drew on it and blew a cloud of vapor past him, he said
what is that thing? I said it's an electronic ciggy, so then I explained how it works and how
you can mix your own liquids of many different flavors, with or without nicotine. He said I don't
smoke but my sister does, I bet she'd be interested in one of them they sound and look great,
so I gave him one of TW's cards.
Then I got half way down the town and met someone I hadn't seen for ages, who asked what I
was vaping, by the time I explained what it was, she said she wants one so I gave her a TW
card. So I'm doing my bit to convert people  Cheesy

Back to the question.....I'm not into percentages  and using drops is a pain in the proverbial ars,
so I do my measuring in ml's, so how many ml's of VG glycerine, and how many ml's of deionised, water
do I use to make up 100 ml's?  The glycerine is very thick...a bit like me.  Roll Eyes
All replies regretfully received  Kiss

I use 90ml Glycerin & 10ml vodka, works for me so presumably the same should be OK with the  deionised  water.

Measure in a jug, (most kitchen jugs will measure in 50ml divisions...) 85ml of Glycerine and then top that up to 100ml with deionised water, that means 85% of your mix is Glycerine and  15% deionised ( the 15ml difference you added to the glycerine to make it up to 100ml.) Don't be too over worried about being absolutely spot on

Yes that’s the stuff.
It is only water that has had its mineral ions removed

Thanks Astrecks  Smiley I thought thats what 85% mls / 15% mls meant but I thought I'd better check anyway.
I've mixed it now but it still seems abit thick, I'll try it out tomorrow.
At 85p for 200 mls of glycerine and £1.79 for 1ltr deionised water, you can save quite abit, when you think of how much is
charged for 60 mls of VG glycerine plus postage but it's the same anywhere on the net, it seems TW one of the cheapest.

Deionised water is use in steam irons to prevent the build up of lime-scale caused by tap water in hard water areas, this same tap water could cause lime-scale and other mineral deposits on the atomiser coil, bottled mineral water will have the same effect on the atomiser coil too  Shocked

Thanks Astrecks that's very interesting. Tap water does buggers up your steam iron, I know that.

But lets be honest if you re only going to need 15ml of the stuff then distilling your own tap water is probably worth the effort.  This is how I would do it, but I dare say there are other ways...

Put tap water in a pan,  put a bowl floating in the water, put the lid on and give it a slow boil / simmer.  The water should steam, hit the lid, cool down and then fall into the bowl distilled.  It will not make much, but you don't need much. Obviously the wider the bowl the more you will catch. Probably better to get a bowl that is deeper than the water you have it in too, you don't want it to sink ect.  I have not tried this but it should work.

I just use boiled water (it still isn't good enough for an iron but is safe enough) , but distilling it would be much better, especially in small amounts.  If you needed a litre of the stuff then I would buy deionised for what we need it for.

I hear what your saying, but since deionised water is so cheap at £1.79 Ltr then its hardly worth doing all that with bowls unless you happen to be a tightfisted scrimper,  Wink and a Ltr will last a very long time if it's only used for mixing eliquid. Grin
Oh! the joy of having so much VG glycerine to mix without worrying about running out. I bought 10 mls of 18mg banana flavor eliquid....it's sickly sweet...so I mixed it with the VG I made up, and now it's the nic strength I want with a nice creamy banana flavor  Tongue I do have a 60 ml bottle of PG but I'm not a big fan of a lot of throat hit. The 60 ml PG peg 400 I have will wait till I'm more experienced at mixing to try out.

Well I wouldn't suggest storing an opened bottle of pure DI water and using it in the future.  It won't stay pure for long mate.

It will be ok to store. Minerals won't find their way in after they've been taken out.

From what i have seen from site selling vg mixed with water they tend to use 10% so 11ml of water should do with 100ml of vg making 111ml mix if you wanted to make it in smaller batchs as and when you need it maybe you could make ice cubes with it and defrost as needed not sure if that will ruin it tho

Something that has just occured to me.....

is the AG that TW sell already watered down ?.....

Also, I have been told if you have a condencing tumble dryer that collects the water in a tank, then this water is distilled ? Even if it is..... I have never fancied using it, I know that in theory its clean as the clothes have just come from the washer.....but somehow, vaping  water that has been "condenced" from my pants and socks does not seem right Sad

Hi Tim, yes, the AG is already diluted to the right amount for mixing and vaping. As to your condensed drier water, yes, it has been distilled, but without knowing what the pipes and tank it has gone through are made of, it may well have picked up chemicals leaching from the plastics etc, so is probably not still distilled by the time you would want to use it. Does that make sense?? And if you've ever used any of those tumble drier freshening sheets the residues of those will also be throughout the pipework.

Cheers Stevie....

Makes perfect sense....

I empty mine and throw it away... though one of my neighbours swear by it for her iron... and her husband uses it to fill the radiator on his old MG.....

As for me.... like I mentioned......water from underpants and socks (though clean) somehow seems just so wrong !!

That would take a long and it would have to be open for something to get in and grow bacteria. It's pure water, no additives. No bacteria like tap water. No chlorine like tap water. Keep it capped tight and it will last like bottled water. Fridge it like me if your worried. I have a bottle that's almost 6 months old. Date on bottle says 2 years.
Quote
If its distilled and sealed in a sterile glass container then I would say forever. Water trapped in the earth for millions of years is still good to go. The water will never be bad in and of itself. It would only be if something got into the water and began to live there. If there is nothing in the water to support life (nutrients) then what could possibly live in it? DIstilled water is pure. I would wonder more about the stability of my container.

This is from a bottled water company and it is not even distilled water:

"Until January 2006, New Jersey was the only state that required a two-year expriation date on bottled water. Thankfully, the New Jersey legislature rescinded that labeling requirement last year. Today, our bottled indicate a "best by" date. Water should be stored in a cool (40 to 60 degrees), dark (away from sunlight) and dry (modest humidity-less than 50%) place. It should be as far away as possible from substances such as chemicals, detergents, cleaning supplies, gasoline, etc.

Our product is a natural product that contains no chemicals or preservatives. As a result, extended exposure to the sun can cause bacterial growth. To prevent this common and natural process from occurring and to maintain the quality of your bottled water keep the bottle out of direct sunlight and place in a cool, dry, chemical free area. If stored properly, water in 3 and 5-gallon containers has a shelf life of two years. Smaller containers, 1 gallon and 2.5 gallon bottles, are made with a thinner grade of plastic than larger bottles and have an optimal shelf life of about 6 months (but remain drinkable for two years). They have a shorter shelf life because they are more permeable to outside odors. Again, the key is how water is stored."
