I see a lot of folks recommend letting a mixture seep...age a little. Makes sense. the question I got is what is the best temperature for ageing a mixture.

I was thinking about storing them in my van...even in winter my van in Florida gets into the high 90F temperature range during the day...I was thinking the heat would thin out the mix and make it blend better.

Then again I could argue that storing them in the refrigerator would  keep the flavors from being "Cooked".

Then finally I keep thinking just room temperature around 75F is a good mix of both.

So what is the best temperature for seeping a mixture?

For optimal steeping/aging you want to store it at 65.3 degrees humidity at 48.6%
Keeping the bottle tilted at a 60% angle and turning the bottle clockwise at 1 hour intervals in 180 degree increments.

Take the cap off the bottle at the 5th day and let it breathe for 3 hours before vaping.  Roll Eyes

LOL there is such a thing as going to far with an idea.

Heat is no good for the nic content from what I understand..... just keep it at room temperature .... as that is the temperature you will vape it at. Letting it sit in the bottle for a couple of days will work its own way just fine..... no need for all the other messing about. I vape mine as it steeps... as I have no patience.

In general its best to store for longer periods premixed and base nic at cooler temps ... in a dark place out of sunlight.. in the refrigerator... or a box

Personally I think this steeping business is nonsense.

Why would you want to leave your mix exposed to a high humidty air?

All that would happen is the PG would absorb moisture from the air due to it being hydroscopic (I can't see what this will achieve).

If you want to add more water to the mix do that, its a lot quicker than leaving the mix exposed for 5 days.

What are the storage recommendations for propylene glycols?

Prolonged contact of glycols with air should be avoided to decrease the possibility of oxidative degradation reactions and water absorption (glycols are hygroscopic). Dow recommends that propylene glycols be stored under nitrogen, ideally, but the use of dry air is also effective. Glycols should be stored under recommended warehouse conditions below 104°F (40°C) in closed containers.

Propylene glycols will degrade slowly in the presence of oxygen. Metal contamination, acidic or basic contaminants and higher temperatures all accelerate the degradation reactions. A strong odor, higher acidity, higher ultra-violet (UV)-absorption or high color are indicators that a propylene glycol has been not been stored properly and has started to degrade.

Propylene glycols are sensitive to UV light, which can act as a radical initiator and initiate oxidation reactions. For this reason, it is recommended that glycols be stored in opaque containers and avoid frequent or prolonged exposure to sunlight.

...............................

Further comments are welcome I only started mixing a few days ago.

Cant find the word steeping on wiki, someone has a explanation to this word?

1. To soak in liquid in order to cleanse, soften, or extract a given property from.
2. To infuse or subject thoroughly to.
3. To make thoroughly wet; saturate.

To undergo a soaking in liquid.
n.

@knoton, just let it rest.... the mix I mean  Wink
@sj
nobody is suggesting that you leave the cap off the bottle,
keeping it as airtight as possible and in a cool, dark place is the idea, giving it a good shake up each day and of course, before each use..
If you taste a mix just after brewing it, then taste it again a week later, you'll find a great deal of difference in the taste.  Smiley

Never really give this a thought, then read this post so decided to give a bottle that's been brewing in my cupboard for 2 weeks now. It was a 10ml bottle of absinthe that I mixed myself, first time I tried it and didn't think that much of it(I know everybody raves about it) just thought that I had botched the mix up. So just loaded a clearo and defo improved.

Absinthe is my absolute favourite, I have 115ml of the concentrate hehehe
Although I must say that absinthe is one exception to the maturing rule, in my opinion it is tasting well right away.

Ahh cheers for the info. Wink

I know you guys have the experience on mixing so I will take your word for it and give it a go. Cheesy

I have a question (not sure if I should post a thread on it or ask you guys here)

Lets assume the PG/AG mix of 80/20 is good.....

Do I take into account the PG that is already in the NIC+Flavouring juice? (I'm guessing not)

At the moment I just use a premixed bottle of PG/AG @ 80/20 and add that mix to the NIC+Flavour mix accordingly.

The ratio is for the whole mix, including nicbase.

If you use a "premix" with both pg and ag the result will be lower than 80/20

OK, here it comes: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/45324526/MixingHelper.zip
note that it will only work on windows and you need to have .net framework 3.5 installed (comes with windows update)

Yeah, it would be nice with a sticky for all of the tools that are good to have out there.

LOL I cant believe how much it actually taste of absinthe, I used to drink it all the time when you could get decent stuff. Might have to try and drink it again and vape it at the same time. Might be a bit of overkill but hey try anything once. Defo got to get some more before it sells out.

Cheers for the info and cheers for the app.

I have some DV absinthe but im not sure if I like it. It was OK at 1st but I think I just prefer tobacco flavours, I spent yesterday trying to get its remnants out of my atty.

Maybe it reminds me of the days when I was drinking it as chasers after each beer.

I was OK while drinking but always found myself waking up on the floor next to my bed, still have my ears though. Grin

Anyway I've only used 5 drops in total I'm tempted to ask asterecks or tara if they want to do a swap as they are both in my hometown.

Maybe I'll try it again on a spare atty, I don't know.

omg.  Darth had me there for a minute.  like someone else here said and i agree, and IMO, steeping is a tad overrated. how could you possibly tell the difference?  for example, you mix today and vape it.  then you steep it for two weeks and then taste it again.  how could you possibly make a comparison after two weeks?  i will willingly relent that steeping can afford a better taste but in the same hand it can also make a flavor not as good.  unfortunately we just don't know.  some will swear by it and others dispute it.  if you want to steep, go for it. i mix and vape.  i do let it steep for 10 to 15 minutes i will admit. so i'll just shut up now.

LOL John...... I vape only one flavor really.... I can see a bit of difference by the third day. Maybe because the vg I use is  a bit on the thick side... dunno.... But after a while the flavor gets a bit more body to it.
