Red Label Apple Concentrate October 2011

Crystal clear liquid for this one and, upon opening the bottle, there’s a very pleasant aroma of what is to me a slightly sweet fresh apple which has been bitten into……   Tongue

Equipment – Tornado 650mAh battery, fitted with a clean 510LR atty

Let’s begin with my favourite starting-point in terms of nic and flavour strength……

Mix #1
10 drops DV PI VG
6 drops TW RL FC Apple
14 drops DV PEG400 dilutant

18mg nic strength, 20% flavour, Shake the dropper bottle and leave to rest for a while…

Well, for me personally, this mix seems to be ideal. What I thought was going to be a concoction which would produce an overly sweet, almost “soft drink” taste turns out to be almost as the flavour concentrate smell - just slightly sweet and quite refreshing. The aftertaste lingers for a fair while but becomes quite dry – the kind of taste one gets when eating the peelings for a length of time. In fact, I’d go as far to say that during the exhale is where most of the flavour is produced. Very pleasant…….

Even when opening my dropper bottle containing this mix you can quite easily smell the apple from within, however, I’m not convinced that increasing the flavour content will produce better results so let’s reduce, slightly, the level of concentrate and, at the same time, increase the nic strength and see if there’s any drastic reduction in overall taste……

Mix #2
17 drops DV PI VG
6 drops TW RL FC Apple
17 drops DV PEG400 dilutant

23mg nic strength, 15% flavour, Shake the dropper bottle and, again, leave to settle…

There’s no real doubt that the overall flavour content is slightly diminished but, what I did notice was a bit of an increase in sharpness to the flavour on the inhale – most peculiar, and it took a few puffs to make sure that I wasn’t imagining things. The aftertaste dryness is certainly lessened when reducing the flavour content (which is expected, I guess) and, to be honest, I’m now not sure which batch I prefer – both have their plus points….  Hmm….

In conclusion, I really enjoyed this flavour – there are plenty of apple flavours out there in the market and this one certainly didn’t disappoint. With my mix #1 it was like the exhale of a Golden Delicious (slightly sweet), whereas mix #2 gave me the inhale of a Granny Smith (slightly sharp). I also got to find out just how well the apple flavour concentrate goes with the DV menthol – a discovery in itself but that, my friends, is another story…….  Smiley

Happy mixing

John

Red Label Apple Concentrate October 2011

When this arrived I thought.....'Oh yeah, Apple, I can compare this to other versions I've tried before!' The bottle came in the usual striped box, which, despite looking like a Punch And Judy stall, is growing on me, and certainly helps it stand out from the rest of my mixing gear. When I took the lid off the bottle I was pleasantly surprised to find a good, quite strong, smell of 'green' apples ie more Granny Smiths than Braeburn and from the smell I have great hopes for the flavour. As I have found other RL concentrates to be a bit light on the flavour I mixed this straight at 15% with Herculean VG Unflavoured, gave it a good mix and let it stand overnight. In the morning gave it another good mix and let it stand again then on Sunday night came the first trial.
Took the lid off my mix bottle and the smell was almost identical to the concentrate, nice crisp green apples, a good strong aroma. Stick a fresh LR 510 atty on my Tornado battery and drip 3 drops  then away we go....
The taste is SLIGHTLY more candy-like than the smell leads you to expect, but then again I am using all VG so that would bring in the sweetness more. When I say candy-like, it's very similar to 'Apple Sours' in taste as, despite the sweetness there is a definite acidic tang to the taste. This also tastes stronger than previous concentrates from this range have led me to expect. For me there was no need for another mix as this 15% mix is just about perfect. It isn't quite as 'real fruit' as the DV apple and isn't as sweet as the Titan apple, but does deserve it's own place in anyones collection if they like fruity flavours. I have no hesitation in recommending this one at all.

PS I have found that all of these concentrates so far definitely benefit from a few days steeping as the flavours do develop quite markedly from when first mixed.

Red Label Apple Concentrate October 2011

Concentrate is clear in color, smell is strong and a very nice tart green apple aroma  Smiley

Mixed at 50%VG, 16mg, 15% flavor.  Vaped in an XL clearomizer . . . I'd have tried it another way, as well, but I just couldn't put this clearo down.  To date I've filled it 4 times and I've only had the concentrate a few days  Tongue

On to the taste:

First impression, only an hour or so after mixing up a batch, the taste is nice and crisp and sweet, just like a green apple Jolly Rancher.  Not at all subtle, but not overpowering.  Me likey  Grin  Throat hit is mellow on this mix, but I don't think I'd want a lot of throat with this one

After the mix has sat for a day and the same clearo has been refilled, the flavor mellows out just a little and has slightly less of a candy-ish taste.  Still very good and if you like granny smith apples or green apple candy, then this is a recommended vape: 9 out of 10 Killjoys agree, this vape is for you  (I'm still trying to silence that last one).  I certainly couldn't vape this all day long, but I wouldn't object to vaping some on a regular basis  Wink

Red Label Apple Concentrate - October, 2011

At least I know what an apple taste like! Grin

Concentrate is completely clear in color (or lack thereof Undecided) and has the aroma of fresh cut apple slices, but there is an underlying "chemical" note to it (not sure how else to describe it).

Mix:
3ml of eliquid at 4mg (PI VG base)
AG diluent.
10% flavor concentrate
Mixed and allowed to steep for 48 hours

Equipment:
new Smoky
Booster at the 10 o'clock setting on a Tornado battery

First impression... Undecided well, apple. Cheesy  None of that chemical note that I detected when I smelled the concentrate seemed to be present when vaped.  Flavor at 10% was light and crisp.  Tasted much like a biting into an apple.  Tart with slightly sweet undertones (likely due to the heavy VG percentage of my mix).  Pleasant vape, if a little short on flavor.  Slight, although not unpleasant aftertaste.  Surprising amount of throat hit for an all VG/AG mix.

Extracted remaining juice from the Smoky and returned to the bottle.  Added more flavor concentrate to bring the flavor percentage up to around 15%, and another drop of PI.  Let's have another go, shall we...

At 15% flavor it's now more sour and tart.  Very little of the initial sweetness is detected.  More like munching on apple peels. Huh  Aftertaste is more pronounced and persistent, but still not an unpleasant vape.  Strong throat hit at 15%.  Much more so than my other VG/AG mixes.

Conclusions:  Tastes like apple (go figure Roll Eyes).  I've never had an apple vape before, so I don't know how it compares to the apple flavor from other eliquid lines (e.g. DV Apple).  Would I buy it again?... probably not.  While I do very much like fruit flavored vapes, I prefer the sweet ones.  I don't really do sour/tart flavors.  Would I recommend it to someone who was looking for an apple vape?  Yes, I would.  This would never be one of my daily vapes, but I can see vaping a bit of it once in a while, and it does a good job of cleaning out the palate, but I do find myself vaping something else after I've had a go at this in order to clear out the aftertaste.  I think the ideal percentage in a Smoky might be in the 12-13% range, but you'd probably want 15-20% in a Tank.

P.S. Just mixed another 3ml of this tonight and refilled my Smoky.  Vaping immediately after mixing, it taste more of a tart apple candy than a real apple. Undecided  I think this is one flavor that really benefits from rest time after mixing.

Red Label Apple Concentrate September  2011

Again, the sample came in a very colourful stripy TW box containing a standard 5ml squeeze bottle.

As with the other samples, I used "old faithful" - my two and half year-old SD Mk1 - fitted with a 1.7ohm LR901 atomiser which I "cleaned" by vaping flavourless 24mg PG through it.  I put about 5ml of the same PG in a new empty 5ml bottle.  For the mix I put around 15 drops into the 5ml (as the other samples had all needed a fairly strong mix)

The sample smelled, to me, of "Apple Boiled Sweeties"  (Apple Candy for those in the US) - not unpleasant but very "candy".
Having let the bottle let in stand for a few hours, I dripped three drops into the atty and vaped.  The flavour was less obviously "boiled sweets" - more a very sweet apple with a hint of sugariness...  On further vaping, things remained the same.  The hit was so-so with the LR atty - OK but not strong.

The aftertaste was more apple than the vape and although still sweet, less so and more "fruity".  It left my mouth slightly sticky.

This flavouring produced a liquid which vapes fine and has a definite apple quality - of you like sweet sugary apples.   I prefer my fruit sharper...

October 2011 Red Label Apple Concentrate

Today’s review will be Totally Wicked’s Red Label Apple Concentrate, it certainly is the right time of year for it.  Quite a few of my friends have recently been posting pictures and stories of apple picking in Upstate New York.

Equipment:
Mega Tornado with a freshly opened 2.4-2.6 ohm xl clearomizer.

Appearance/Aroma:

A totally clear, thin liquid, very similar to water in appearance, this liquid has the distinct aroma of an uncapped bottle of apple juice.

The Mix:
I guessed that apple would be a subtle flavor so I initially started with a mix of 15 % flavor, 12mg in nicotine strength, in a ratio of 60% PG 40% VG.  I found it a little strong for my liking so settled in on the 10% flavor concentration I had used on prior Red Label mixes.

Flavor:
Definitely taste the apple!  It’s a half and half combination of sweet red apple and tart green apple.  It’s not a natural apple flavor it’s more on the candy side.  The flavor has a bold apple punch to it; however, I taste a very slight perfumey edge to it that’s a little distracting.  Overall, I like it.

Throat Hit:
As I mentioned when describing the flavor, there is a slight edge to it.  I think it helps to give this apple flavor a tiny bit of harshness and provides a good amount of throat hit.

There were a few apple flavor liquids I’ve tried in the past I found subtle and bland, so I wasn’t expecting much; however, I was delightfully surprised. Red Label Apple is a flavor I will be revisiting in the future.

Red Label Apple Concentrate - October 2011

On receiving the juice, it is clear in colour. The aroma from the bottle is lovely, sweet apples. Reminds me more of apple jellies/boiled sweets, less of natural apple.

I mixed a small amount of 24mg strength. 26 drops VG Platinum Ice…20 drops PG diluent…14 drops Totally Wicked Red Label Apple concentrate.
Using a fresh Tornado Tank cart, on my Tornado Tank.

First impression is the mix is very good, no extra flavour needed which is great, I can taste the apple straight away….lovely.
This is a very refreshing taste, and it does linger in the mouth and on the tongue, a really nice aftertaste, but it is quite mouth drying, an nice cool drink with this one then.
For me this is definitely more a sweet apple/boiled sweet….but on saying this it's a lovely refreshing flavour. The more I come back to it, the tastier it gets.

Throat hit with this mix is good, but the flavour outweighs the throat hit for me.  There is a good amount of vapour, and the vapour itself does have a sweet aroma, quite nice.
I still tend to vape more tobacco flavours than sweet flavours, but this is definitely one of my favourite flavours so far, a big thumbs up.
