Hey guys, I just got my SD MKII today, and I can't seem to get the little strap for attaching the cap to the SD attached. Is there some magical technique for doing this?

No magical technique, but it helps if you remove the button assembly.  This gives you more room to maneuver

I've always had exactly the same problem - what I did was just take the strap through only one of the holes and then loop it.  It seems to work and the cap still fits on, just needs a bit more of a push.  Grin

Kate

ps. and killjoy I still had problems with the button removed - just using one of the holes is the only way I can do it. Smiley

What I do now (After struggling with the first two to get the ring through the cap fitting) is just thread the loop for the short lanyard through the cap 'bridge' then feed the other end of the lanyard (with the silver ring) through that loop and pull it tight. Then seed the loop of the long lanyard through the ring  then through the first hole in the SD base (with the button assembly removed). With a pair of tweezers to keep the loop narrow, feed it back through the other hole and then run the lanyards and cap through that loop and pull tight, reassemble button and voila, all done..... less than five minutes and MUCH less swearing and frustration than trying to fit it with the ring through the cap etc.

I've recently bought two screwdrivers, and one of them (the black one) came with a substantially bigger metal ring for the cap than the other (I'd say the diameter was twice that of the one on my Silver SD). The silver SD cap was really easy to fit to the ring, but the black one was a complete and utter pain: The diameter of the ring is such that it can't go through the cap and back out again. In the end, I squeezed the ring a bit to get it through.
I did send feedback to TW that they should stick with the smaller ring: It's much easier Smiley

I feed the loop through one of the holes then feed a bent staple through the other to hook the loop and pull it back through. Voila loop through both holes!!  Cheesy

I tried the bent staple method, but still ended up frustrated - I didn't find a staple long enough. But it gave me the idea to use a long length of 15amp fuse wire. Fed it through the second base hole until it came out the top of the base, put the lanyard loop over the end of the wire and then bent the wire into a tight hook to hold the lanyard and thin enough to pull it through the second hole... Now that was easy..!

Is it the ring into the button cap you are having problems with?

Getting the ring through the button cover was 'murder' -  I did it in the end but the ring is no longer a circular shaped.

Being a bit of a guitar picker, I have long fingernails (at least on the right hand) but they didn't help... I suppose I'm missing the woman bit Wink

Oh, and my previous comment should have read:  '.... but the ring is no longer circular shaped' or '... but the ring is no longer a circular shape' - I put it down to vaping too much.

Eventually, pushed the cable thro one of the holes in the side of the SD and pulled the loop of cable up thro the top with a paperclip, then a propper loop to tie it.
The silver ring would not go thro the plastic cap tho even when aligned, so had to deform it a bit  Roll Eyes

I'm confused. What do you actually attach the metal ring to? I have the thread looped and secured on the cap, but I cannot work out how to actually attach it to the SD itself.

Attach the ring to the cap & the lanyard to the SD body
It helps to remove the button assembly & use a thin wire to thread the lanyard through the holes.

I should have used a silver SD It would have showed up better  Roll Eyes

Look at that - still a perfectly circular ring after being threaded through the cap... I'm envious.
