My SD MKll quit working as it should. I started searching the posts and saw one that said their SD rattled when shook, and what caused it. Checked mine, and sure enough, the spring on the atty end had retracted. I think this was my fault. I was checking voltage and probably shorted it. I had a stroke in 2010, and I'm not very stable with my left hand. Anyway, I pulled the spring out as best I could, but it still wasn't right. I was getting ready to try again and while I was waiting decided to charge one of my batteries. It had been charging for about an hour when I heard a pop. My charger light was blinking red, and was very hot. It was then I decided to order a new one. Order tracking shows it'll be here tomorrow.

Have a very close look at your batteries - especially at the covering of the battery around the bottom end - is the covering split where it "folds over" onto the bottom?   If so you will have had a short and you should change the battery

The battery that was in the charger did have a small split in it so I disposed of it. I don't know what happened but just glad I heard it pop.

The new SD arrived and have noticed a couple of differences. The main one is that it works very well. On the old one, on the top where you screw on the atty, there is a hole like on an automatic battery. On the new one, no hole, which is fine.
Also, on the Christmas yo-yo, I ordered some 901 attys. They are a little different than the ones that came with the SD. The wick is taller and narrower. I was wondering about them when I got them because they push the wadding up into the cart more than the ones that came with the SD.
