I just got my screwdriver kit and am really stoked about getting started with it. Honesly not sure what version this is - it doesn't say MKII on it anywhere. So while I'm waiting for the battery to charge I'm viewing videos and putting things together. There is one thing - not shown on the video that is giving me fits.
How in heck do you get the little silver ring on the button cap lanyard to attach to the button cap itself. In the video when they show it it's already attached. I've been fighting with it for over half an hour and can't get the ring end to go into the cap hole. Tips or videos would be helpful

If it's got a button cap, then it's the MKII. As far a putting the ring on it....I gave up!  Sorry. I'm no help there!  |

ok....I just did it.... Took me about 30 mins but with the help of two thumb nails to prize the ring open...and a few swear words.......it can be done. Shouldn't be that hard to do tho....  |

I put it the other way around.. so I put the landyard string through the cap bit and the metal ring is at the SD end. I threaded the neck lanyard string through the metal ring, then into the hole of the SD. So it's still secure.. and that's all that matters to me  |

It really is a test of dexterity to get the ring on! The way I did it was to pry open the ring with a paring knife and then feed the end into the hole on the cap. It was much more difficult than that simple description sounds though and still took about 10 minutes to get it on!

I can attest to the above. 30-45 mins of swearing on Christmas day with a butter knife finally saw success with the metal ring and the button cap. The only problem (if you want to call it a problem) is that it left the metal ring spread open a bit so that the end scratched up a small portion of the cap cover. No biggie and a small price to pay for keeping that sucker put.
Now I'm afraid that over a short time I might shear the lanyard cord after many reapplications of the button cover.

Step One: Have a drink
Step Two: Convince yourself, at least momentarily, that you are smarter than the wire
Step Three: If necessary, purchase a metal detector so you can find the wire each time it flies out of you hand
Step Four: Have another drink
Step Five: Remove the wire from your eye (no metal detector required)
Step Six: Put everything aside and try again tomorrow

I found it RELATIVELY easy using a small pair of long nosed pliers to hold the ring open and guide the end of the wire through.
I say relatively because it still took about ten minutes to get the ring through the cap fitting.

I found that after questioning the parentage of the SD cap for 30 minutes then cursing my mother and father for having me in the first place, it went on really easy. Cant see why everyone has been having problems.

I did end up bending the ring open - threading it through and then bending it back - me thinks there should be an easier way.

thought it was just me... after 30 mins and using butter knife, tweezers, fingernail, everything to try to keep the little ring open, I finally bent it open with tweezers, threaded it through, bent it back into shape with same tweezers. I've got some nice little metal O rings I use for knitting markers that I would like to replace it with, but am afraid of it (O ring) opening (and losing cap) up if I get it caught on something... I do try to be careful with that, always swing lanyard around to my back if bending over or at sink, stove, etc.

Here's what I did:
Spread the ring wide enough to fit on the nub on top of the cap.
Push it down where the opening of the ring lines up with the hole.
Twist the ring while pushing down and slip it into the hole.
Thread it through and your done.
It took me about 45 minutes to figure this out and make it work. I was laying in bed while doing it and lost the stupid thing a couple of times.

I posted in another thread, but I ended up giving up on the way it was designed. I had an extra matching lanyard from a USB memory stick and stole it... This is what I came up with.   |

I did it! Learned it just takes a little "Zen." It helps to keep remembering that the holes in the plastic cap are a downward shot and that the ring needs to be perfectly upright rather than slanted at even the slightest angle. Now I'm going to go see if I can thread a needle with a camel.
