Hi guys!
Long time Tornado user here. In fact, still have the original batteries that came with it (of course I have others I've bought since) and they're still working over a year later. I lean towards the LR side of life and am wondering how much more vapor and throat hit I would see if I moved to the SD. I'm not necessarily unhappy with my Tornado just looking around.
I've moved to the tank system and I do enjoy it. I've been eyeballing the clear/smoky'meizers or however you wanna spell it but just not sure. While I was a long time LR'er and do miss it I moved to the mega tornado as I felt like the LR Tanks just didn't do it like the ole atty's did.
Your thoughts?

Well, if you want me to talk you into one, just read this statement: GET ONE!!!! In all honesty, I love my SDs (I have two, one silver and one black). Performance-wise, you'll see a slight increase since the battery isn't regulated like a Tornado, so you get a little bit higher voltage for most of a charge than you would from a 'nado. They're also very comfortable to hold. I haven't touched a 'nado batt since I got my first SD They're well worth picking one up

While I have never used a Tornado so I cannot compare the two performance wise, I am, however, an avid lover of my Black SD MKII !!! I bought the 901-510 adapter and I use XL Clearomizers on everything I own. The way the SD feels in your hand is so nice and it is cheaper to replace a SD battery and "greener" since you keep the SD metal shell and just replace a battery inside. I would highly recommend adding 1 or 2 (black and silver) SD MKII's to your inventory!!!
Happy Vaping!

If your not using it you could put it up in the trades section. I am sure someone will give you some good stuff for it.

That is a good point. I'll admit I wasn't sure about the bottom button thing, either, but I found I quite like it after trying it. But to each their own and nobody faults you for your preference And like you said, it's just another thing to take into consideration

Hi Rona This time last year I didn’t give the SD a thought – I was more than happy with my Tornados and my DSE901 setups. I regarded the SD as something “quite fiddly” and “prone to breakdown” – hindsight tells me I was wrong on both counts…… After around 18 months of Tornado use, one or two of my batteries were coming to the end of their lives but they had a good innings and, taking advantage of the 30% off July sale I was faced with a choice – for a similar outlay I could purchase a 5-pack of Tornado 650mAh batteries, or invest in a Screwdriver. I decided on the latter and I’m so glad I did. It feels nice to hold, maintenance / cleaning is a breeze and the 900mAh protected batteries are cheap. I’m not into tanks, clearos, cartos etc etc – I simply use “old-skool” whistle-tip carts or drip-tips (my favourite) on the 901 atty. I also use a low-resistance 901 atty which, unfortunately, TW doesn’t carry at the moment. I received my SD on July 9 and today (August 25) I’m just about to discard the original atty which came with the base kit, as well as the 901 LR which I purchased separately – yes, I was extremely lucky that both atties lasted such a long time, it certainly wasn’t through lack of use. I am aware that some folks have bought the SD with the tank conversion, and I know that one or two have had problems (although the majority of folks haven’t) with short-circuiting. Read some of the threads regarding this on the SD MKII child-board and I’m sure you’ll be OK if you decided to go with this version – as I say, it’s not for me…… I don’t regret a single day since I gave a SD a new home. Sure, my remaining Tornados and DSE901 stuff still get used on a daily basis if away from the house (shopping, going into Town, beer and curry evenings etc), the SD enjoys living at home or joining me in days-out to relatives where there is no risk of damage or loss – that would be heartbreaking…. Nothing much more I can add really except that I’m sure you wouldn’t be disappointed with your purchase. Whether you go for the base kit (like me), the full kit, or the full kit with the tank conversion – well, that’s up to you……. Hope this helps John

They call the SD the Ferrari for a reason. It's pretty darn awesome. I have one, it gets used on a daily basis a home. On the road, I prefer my Tornado tank. I think I've posted this a million times now already. I use the SD as my primary at home because it's the awesome, and the maintenance is less costly than the tank, and I use the tank in public because it's less conspicuous. Every die-hard vaper should have one.

I have a number of SDs including a Mk1 which is nearly two and half years old and Mk2 which I bought when they first came out nearly two years ago. Both still function perfectly. The batteries work out very cheap over time and if you get yourself a collection of adapters, you can screw just about anything onto an SD. My personal favourites are LR901 atties and DC Cartos.

I've looked longingly at the SD ever since first discovering the website (around a year ago now) and have been very tempted, but the cost just seems so much higher than any other device that I've often found myself asking what could I possibly get extra that my current setup doesn't offer? My 'current setup' has changed frequently within that time and I still haven't been able to justify the cost of the SD. ESPECIALLY since I've learnt just how many factors there are in getting a consistently good vaping experience... predominantly the atomiser. Currently I'm using a MEGA tornado battery with smokeys and the nylon drip tip. Fantastic from a practical point of view; amazing battery life, great carto, great vape. However the length of the device looks quite ridiculous in this configuration and it's starting to give me a bit of a complex! Aside from the aesthetic, what would improve with an SD? It seems to run at the same 3.7v, have a slightly shorter mah (not even sure what it means if I'm entirely honest - I have always put it down to total charge but please correct me if I'm wrong) and although replacing the batteries may be greener/cheaper, considering the lifespan of a mega T battery I'm really not sure I'd need to replace the battery. I too would love to be convinced

The Tornado has a regulated battery which means it runs at a constant voltage and when the battery drains below that it shuts off. The SD battery is unregulated so even after it drops below the standard output it will still continue to power the atty granted at a lower performance but it will let you vape longer before draining completely. And with a 901-510 adapter you can use the clearos and smokeys on the SD.

The Tornado 3.7v battery has PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) technology that maintains a constant voltage of around 3.3v from fully charged to discharged, so provides a consistant vape (atomiser depending, lol). The SD unregulated 3.7v battery will measure 4.2v straight from the charger and initially puts out 3.9v under load, which soon drops to the 3.7v which it maintains for much of it's charge life before diving off quickly to below 3.2v and less. Many people, including myself enjoy this extra 0.5v the battery gives you for a considerable period. Also the SD is very tactile, and warms beautifully in the hand when in use, it is small and comfortable to use, people get the impression it is a massive size, it is not, the SD without an atomiser can be concealed in the average man's hand. It is probably the first battery mod ever produced, it is a classic British design I believe any vaper worth their salt should have one in their kit

I believe any vaper worth their salt should have one in their kit Oh it's like that is it!? Well when you put it like that I'd better stop thinking about it and get on with it Does the extra voltage really make that much of a difference? My finger's starting to twitch over that 'add to cart' button....

i recently got my SD delivered (yesterday!!), and i am already glad i upgraded from a tornado tank ... pro's: amazing battery life, very nice in terms of looks, and it feels great in your hands.... i think there is some improved vapour and taste, but not enough to be 100% sure... also very versatile - can take pretty much any atty with the right convertor con's: some people may find it a little big to carry around (personally i think it's the perfect size, but it is bigger than the tornado).... and its little more expensive for the kit (but with cheaper replacement parts).... please note, this is only my opinion and is based on 1 days use... i love it, and i'm pretty sure i haven't even begun to maximise it's potential

I started off with the T-tank and loved it. I bought the SDMk2 simply because it looks so nice but now I use it pretty much exclusively. In fact the only time I've used the tornado recently was to test a tank of newly mixed e-juice that I'd made to check for flavour and I didn't want to take the tank off my SD. The fact that it doesn't look anything like a cigarette is a plus in my book. I use it *everywhere* and I often get the 'you can't smoke here' crap. I just hold up the SD and say 'it's not a cigarette'. They usually wander of looking confused. I usually envision Marvin the Android: There's smoke, but there's no smoke, he's obviously smoking, but ther's no cigarette. There's smoke but no tobacco smell... I need to go lie down for a while.

You should always start with a sincere "I'm sorry, but it's not a cigarette" then proceed to school them. Get them feeling comfy and right before explaining and I feel it helps break the ice.

Yeah, sincerely considering it... What are the variations we can get in LR form to go along with the SD? I know there are several out there but not sure what all it's capable of using. I have considering the clearomizer or w/e just to see how they are but not sure if they have a LR version. Do like the major throat hit and my Tornado is stilling going strong but just wanting a bit more

It's capable of using practically anything, really. The native connector is a 901, but with adapters you can use other atomizer types on it, as well. If you are into the Tanks and get the Tank conversion kit, then you can use any 510 atomizer on that adapter (it's just a 901 to 510 adapter, but a little longer to accommodate the Tornado Tanks). I pretty much stick to those two connector types, but haven't found anything that doesn't perform well on an SD, yet Does the extra voltage really make that much of a difference? My finger's starting to twitch over that 'add to cart' button....
In my opinion: yes. I do notice the difference between a Tornado battery and a fully charged SD battery. In fact, I haven't used any of my 'nados since the day my first SD arrived
