I have been looking through the forum for tips and tricks etc, and have seen many posts about people getting a weird taste when a new atomizer is used. People keep talking about cleaning them but I haven't been able to find a post that explains this clearly. Could someone please explain how to clean an atomizer (I believe it is refered to as "blowing through")? Does it need doing often? And has anyone else experienced the strange taste with a new one? I want to know as much as I can before I get mine so I can make the most out of it from the off set Many thanks Emi x

Hi Semi and welcome to the forum. I have not gotten this "wierd taste" in any of my attys, maybe it is just my indiscriminate taste-buds. I can tell you that attys usually ship with a "primer" fluid that some say taste nasty. I have found that the best way to clean an atty (IMHO) is to simply put a piece of paper-towel into the atty (not too hard) and let it drain overnight. you can get more fluid out if you firmly blow into the "battery-end" of your atty whilst covering up the air hole(s), also into a piece of paper-towel. I'm sure someone else will come up with something else for you, but this is what works well for me over the years.

Ah you are a star I understand now! I'm not simple...I just haven't been able to find this information on the site! I ordered a TECC Mini Platinum Starter Kit yesterday and after reading about people tasting something weird, I wanted to check it out so I can make the most of my first E-Cig I still don't completely understand alot of things, but I am hoping they will be explained in the user manual, if not then I know I can get excellent advice on this forum Many many thanks for answering my question Emi x

Any particular reason to mess with perfection? About the only thing I could add is that if after blowing whatever shipping/storage liquid may have been present out, you still get a bad taste, you should post back so that we can consider more possibilities but the liquid the attys are stored and shipped in is the usual culprit.

The "primer" is just unflavoured zero nicotine PG.. but it may well get stale in storage, It is used to stop the atomiser from corroding in storage. I cut or tear a 1 1/ 2" strip of paper kitchen towel and loosely roll it to the inside diameter of the atomiser, then insert it into the atomiser until it touches the mesh bridge, then blow through the threaded battery end. Remove the paper tube and using scissors cut off the soaked piece of paper towel and repeat until it becomes almost dry. You then need to re-prime it with the eliquid of choice, I would use 4 drops for the initial priming and let it sit there for a few minutes to soak down to the coil before vaping

I didn't realise I had to re-prime the atomizer... Got my e-cig delivered this morning, I just blew the primer fluid out, popped a cart out, took a few drags but blew them straight out, as I was advised...then got vaping. It seems fine and I'm used to it now..
Thanks for all the excellent advice Emi x

Emi, You can also use Diet coke/ Pepsi to revive a dead atomizer. I'm also trying out rubbing alcohol to see if that works too. Happy vaping. And yes, I have thrown a Tornado out the window already while driving. Didn't realize it for half an hour.

I've read that about Coke/Pepsi also and I remember when first reading about it that diet works better.
I would have thought the opposite but I've been wrong before.

I almost had a weird tast today at work when I noticed that I was about to stick my pen in my mouth My co-worker started laughing and we both couldn't stop for a while. I don't think it will be the last time! He just keeps asking me what kind of oil I tank up with!

I've had quite a few attys now and not once come across a bad taste I've got 510s,901s,Megas,LR 510s,LR Megas and Tanks is this a thing with older stock having a different liquid in them. The only atty that has ever tasted bad was a new tank today was fine for awial but with no flavour then a burnt taste turned out the spike isn't the best at piercing the tank even with a few 360 turns so a paperclip later and all was well but they are realy tough to pierce.

I knew about the priming fluid before my tornado first showed up but Im a very curious kind of person so I said ... meh why not. I vaped it ... wow was it bad. Then I did like Astrecks suggested and shoved some paper towel in the cart end and blew through until it was all out ... put a drop or two of liquid on it ... didnt want to risk burning anything in there because it was fairly dry and put on a cart ... all was heavenly

Sometimes it's not too bad. Other times, not so much. I wonder how much of the flavor comes from the air that was in the factory at the time the attys were sealed up in their little plastic seal-a-meal thingys. I don't see why e-jiuce should go 'bad' otherwise, other than absorbing smells from its surroundings.

I saw someone else mention they put their atties in a small vial of rubbinh alcohol for a while...blew them out, then primed with their liquid. Is it okay to completely submerge the atty in alcohol?

There are many opinions on atty cleaning, I did a quick search and found these. http://www.totallywicked-eliquid.com/forum/search2/

KOV - I'm not sure I'd want to put rubbing alcohol near my attire: it's denatured (I.e. deliberately made poisonous) and is unfit for consumption...

Too long submerged in alcohol will mess the paint up.... and completely unnecessary with a new atomiser ...... all you need to do is blow out the primer thoroughly ..... reprime with a tasty eliquid 3 - 4 drops ....... puff on the atty a couple if times to break the wick in ....... and all is well.

What about using warm tap water to wash it out thoroughly, dry it, blow it out, then re-prime?

Doing so will void any warranty on it and is totally unnecessary on a new atty. With an old one that is really gunked up, sure you can give it a wash or a boil, but with a new one what's the point?
Like Darth said, a blow-out and re-prime is all that's needed to get rid of the primer fluid

I found a small flat bottom vial with a plastic cap in my sons old science kit, & my Tornado Tank is just a fit. So I drop it in & fill with vodka replace the cap & shake for a few minutes, remove and allow to dry overnight. So far so good.

Cudnt have put it better some rubbing alcohol include other products to help with cleaning though these products could be potentially harmless if inhaled!!! Please do not try this as comfortable u may be at present doing so a change in the rubbing alcohol used could result in you poisioning urself!!! please be careful is the risk worth it!!
