Having used chocolate flavor, I am constantly having to clean and/or dry-burn an ego-c atty.   Yesterday I did this.   First dry-burned the coil and then put a blue flame to the wick t burn off any residue.  Because I still got a burnt taste, I went ahead and did the hot water cleaning.   I let it dry and I still got the burnt taste.    Then I re-wicked it and still got the burnt taste, so it must be from the coil.

Any suggestions on how to better clean the coil (and yes, I dry-burned it until the coil was glowing red).    Do you think I could take a soft-bristol toothbrush to try and clean off the coil or do you think this might damage it?   Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The wick might have become to short to lead the fluid to the coil. After burning the crud off the coil no gunk should be left to make a burnt taste. You can see the coil and see if the crud turns to ash. If it doesn't turn to ligh grey ash covering the coil you migh have to dry burn it some more. If you see the light grey ash the coil is clean. It has to be the wick. Either too short or not clean.

But I re-wicked the wick with new silica and feel sure the wick is long enough to hit the coil; but will double-check now.

You can also put a couple drops into the atomizer and flood ever so slightly then take a nice puff. It should taste fine as the coil will be covered in juice for a puff or two. Then you'll know it's a wicking issue.

All solved and thanks Rich.   It was the wick.   After putting in a different "spike" on that same coil, no burnt taste.   Figured out I had made the wick too long!

All good and I'm happy!

I've done that before. Odd how a wick too long could have the same bad outcome as a wick too short.  Roll Eyes

does anyone have a specific measurement for how long the wick should be out of the bottom of the spikes? I keep hearing people talk about "too long" or "too short" but would really like a specific measurement if possible. thanks
