Okay, I feel like an idiot, but here goes.

I have both the eGo and the Tornado-T.  My question is about the Tornado-T.

WHERE is the atomizer?

 - Is it is the little screw-looking thing inside the "cone" that fits on the mouthpiece?  OR
 - Is it inside the battery section?

AND, how do I take it apart to clean it or replace it?

Thank you!

The very mechanically un-inclined,
Autumn

Hi Autumn, the Tornado tank atomizer is in the cone section. Some people have had success boiling it then drying it out real good. I haven't tried that method. I just blow it out every so often.

Thank you, Fallguy.

How do you get it out of the cone?

I didn't , just blow or use compressed air in the batt end with a paper towel on the other side to catch the gunk. I am sure a more experienced vapor will help with this. I don't think you can get the atomizer out. But I may be wrong. No dumb questions , just dumb answers like mine...........LOL

Hi Autumn,  Smiley
There's no dumb questions here hon, except the one you don't ask!
We were all new at one time and had a learning curve.... all the new kit coming out now means that the learning continues for all of us....
Fallguy gave you the method for a blow-through and you can puff it by mouth, no need for compressed air, although that's more effective of course.
The standard tank atty sits under the little spike on a metal plate which you can see when you look down the cone...
the fluid in your tank feeds down the wick in that little spike (which pierces the tank to feed the juice down to the coil).
Once the juice reaches the coil it's vapourised when you press your battery activation button to heat the coil.
Blowing the atty through into a tissue every so often is the quick and simple way to keep it tasting good...once it drops off in performance or tastes less than good, it's time to try other cleaning methods... this varies according to your preference and you'll find plenty of methods described on the forum... from dry burning to boiling and even stripping it down to its component parts....etc etc...
or you can bin it and start a fresh one.... depends on you really.  Grin

... a related (possibly dumb) question...

So since there is liquid running through these cone atty's.. is it ok to like run it under the sink to clean out fluid for a flavor change etc? ... or is that too risky?

If your talking about the T atomizer then NO your not recommended to use water as it holds water in the wire mesh and harms the metal along with making a horrible vape.
If your talking the C atomizer then YES you can. It has no mesh and comes completely apart so you can clean and dry it efficiently.

Geez.. I'm so glad someone else posted in this thread. When I read the first half it freaked the hell out of me, as due to a combination of tiredness and temp word blindness, I was convinced that it was someone having a conversation with themselves?!  Shocked  Smiley I thought 'wow, what can we do it with that?'  Undecided made the hairs on my neck stand up!  Grin lol.. Apologies to Fallguy and Fallgal, not your fault.. Think it's time I went to spec savers!  Wink

Well, as someone who frequently has conversations with herself, I did not find VE's post too alarming. Grin

Yup, we are two separate people. I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, but to my knowledge, that as close as we've ever gotten. Cheesy

Thanks all for your replies. I might just get a couple new atty's, as these seem punked out. I did all the cleaning recommendations, but I'm still getting very little throat hit and vapor, and a slightly off/burnt taste. I did all the cleaning procedures a couple times and nada. Sad

If your still getting a crappy taste and little vapor after cleaning correctly I'd say it's not completely dried before you use it or not completely primed.
Let it completely dry before using.
Before using but only after cleaning you must prime the wick and the coil completely.

If that's not the case I'd say "binned" and get some new ones.
That's all I got. Sorry if we couldn't get em going.

Lol.. Glad my ability to be such a doofus cheered you up!  Roll Eyes Apologies for derailing your thread a little there F&F!  Smiley but my sense of relief was such that I had to post!  Cheesy

Guess I should actually try to comment 'on topic' for once..  Tongue

I only used to get a couple of decent weeks out of my Tornado T atties but i agree the main reasons for poor performance are, in a nutshell..

'Not leaving enough of an air gap in the tanks when filling up..
Wick to high, needs pushing down a little as Lettie mentioned
Wick/Attie bunked up, requires dry burning
Washing it with tap water (that will mess the Attie right up)
The hole in the tank cap is blocked, too small, or worn and therefor too big.
Technique'

That's basically a summary of various bits others have posted above. I think if you've tried all of those things (im sure you have) and it's still not happening for you. Then i think you're really better off binning them and whacking on a freshie!  Wink

Push the wick down whaaa?Huh  I don't see a wick. Where is the wick? God, I feel so stupid with these. LOL!

I thought what I did (following the directions above) *was* dry burning?  Guess I don't know what that is either.

When I tried to clean the atty using the 'blow' technique, no gunk came out on the paper towel. Was I supposed to keep the mouthpiece on? I didn't think so. I blew from each end, used a bit of tissue and a q-tip to give a gentle swipe (and did get a tiny, tiny bit of black smudge). That was it. I don't think it made a difference.

To summarize:
I do leave enough gap when filling the tank.
The hole is not distorted. I even put a new one on just in case that was the problem.
I don't think it is my technique?
I've never used water to clean it.

I'm feeling rather dejected over the whole thing and was seriously considering getting some analogs as I feel a bit stressed out. Sad

Hey Fallgal,

Oh no.. Sorry to hear your feeling down. Don't worry, these atoms really aren't always easy to get your head round when they start playing up. Sometimes, they can just be knackered and no amount of messing around can fix it.. so don't think it's necessarily you not doing something right, you may just need a new one!  Smiley
I just thought i would put everything I know, and that others had mentioned, in that last post, so it was all in one place. I hope it didn't seem patronising as it wasn't meant to?  Undecided Wink
Anyway, if you take the mouthpiece and the plastic tank off and look at the atomiser itself, Located inside the spike thats sticking up, you should be able to see a black looking thread? That's the wick.. It might just look like a soft black mush sitting inside the spike!  Smiley Sometimes it needs to be pushed down into the Spike just a tiny bit, you can use a paperclip or something. This puts the other end of that wick closer to the Atomiser and helps the fluid from the Tank reach the right place..
As for blowing the Attie through, Yes, unscrew the Atomiser from the battery, then take off both the tank and mouthpiece. Once you're left holding just the Atomiser cone, blow through the end that screws onto the battery? You should see some fluid come out, it might not look gunky and you really need to give it some welly to clear.. about the same as it takes to blow up a balloon?

Hope that answers some bits anyway.. gotta run.. it's dinner time!  Tongue

Good Luck..

Post on topic? Huh   What, you think you're better than the rest of us now? Huh

Hi Fallgal, the wick is in the hole in the spike.  If you're getting a burnt taste, then it's likely due to your atty running too lean (not getting enough eliquid to vaporize).  This can be helped by doing some cold draws (hitting it w/o pressing the battery button); taking the atty off of the battery, plugging the battery end with a finger, and taking a few short, sharp hits; or by adjusting the wick down (warning!: this will void your warranty!).  To do this, use the end of a paperclip (or similar blunt object), put it in the hole in the spike, and press down. Cheesy  The object is to push the wick down as little as possible.  You can always repeat as necessary, but if you move it too far it will run too rich.  This will result in flooding and leaking, and if you're not careful you'll push it all the way out of the spike and then you'll have to remove the spike plate to retrieve it, reinsert it into the spike, and start the process all over again.

I thought what I did (following the directions above) *was* dry burning?  Guess I don't know what that is either.

No, you need to remove the tank cart.  I only blow through from the battery connector end, but I suppose you could do both ways. Undecided

Shocked Oh, please don't do that.  I'm sure if you give us a chance we can help you and get you a satisfying vape going. Smiley

Huh  Oh, I see VE snuck in there while I was fat-fingering a reply.  Well....... Undecided  what he said. Cheesy

OMG I did it! Cheesy

Thank you so much you guys and gals.

Do you know what I was doing wrong? (I will share my stupidity for the sake of other newbies.)  I was blowing much too softly, like one would blow out a small candle.  The reason for this was twofold: 1) I thought I was supposed to be very gentle with the atty/fear of damaging it; and 2)  Four years ago I suffered a broken jaw and nose as a result of a car accident, so I tend to be a bit gentle with my *face* even to this day. LOL!  But, no more!  I saw the line in VE's post to blow as one would blow up a balloon and thought, "ahhhhhhh!" So I puffed out my chipmunk cheeks like Dizzie Gillespie and blew so hard I nearly lost consciousness (okay, I'm exaggeratng for dramatic effect). Anyway, I did blow quite forcefully, and the liquid came out and some gunk and now my attys are much, much improved! Yea!!!!

I am getting a nice vape now and no longer feel stressed, or wanting an analog or wanting to smack my hubby upside the head for subjecting me to two hours of soccer. Life is good. Cheesy

Thanks again all. Y'all are the *bestest*.
